Quinn jet setting on IUs dime

Far from me to know how other boards operate, but I'm sure many of them travel on the school's dime. But what really gets me is they flew him to do an announcing gig. Seems to me the Pacers should have paid for the trip.

"IU spokesman Mark Bode said in a statement that Buckner had to fulfill responsibilities to the university, by conducting the board meeting that morning, and to the Pacers Sports & Entertainment, where he is vice president of communications and a broadcast analyst."

I'm good with IU paying to fly him and Woodson anywhere in the world if they fire them both.

A 13K one way ticket out of Bloomington works for me!

If only they were a way for QB to have attended the meeting "virtually" over the internet.
Someday someone might invent a video system whereby folks could see, and even talk, to each other from wherever they might be.
I even have an idea for a name, how about "Zoom"?.

This time Dolson picks the head basketball coach!
Not Quinn handing his friend a post retirement gig worth millions $$ of dollars.
How was that even allowed to happen?
And here we are with a big mess 4 years later, with a guy who says he loves the university, but won't step down while obviously failing.
He obviously does not need the money, but the job floats his massive ego.

Fine, IU can cover his travel to get to the board meeting but I see no justification for paying him to go to his other job from there.

Their logic will be that QB would have traveled with the team on their charter if not for the IU BoT meeting in Jeffersonville. But I don't buy that. It's a terrible look for the university to pay for his travel rather than the Pacers.

Alright, then pay for him to fly commercial out of Louisville. If he wants to upgrade to a private charter, he can pay the difference himself.

I agree - fly commercial (SDF is only 17 miles down I65 from IU Southeast), use zoom, etc. There were viable options that are much less expensive. It's indicative of a problem with IU that should be addressed. I'm just guessing the excuse that will be used by those involved.

Yea, or change the meeting time… he is the Chairman and things sort of revolve around him.

It’s not a lot of $ to IU, but it is not so great behavior from a public university.

How does a basketball player get to the the chair at a major university?

And how can a university with a basketball player as the chair have such a bad basketball team?

He was appointed to be a Trustee by the Governor and the Trustees all decide who the Chairman will be. I don’t know who really pulls the strings when it comes to decisions around IU’s core education and research operations. I doubt it’s Quinn that’s not his background.

Clearly playing bball doesn’t always translate to being a good coach or GM-type person.

But that’s irrelevant here. Quinn wasn’t trying to get the best coach. He meddled with the hiring process, which he should not have done, to get his old unqualified pal a fancy job that pays 3-4x more than his dead end NBA assistant gig. Definition of cronyism.
