Purdue recruiting

Those guys were so jacked up about their recruiting and now they're getting "freight trained" by Indiana. Pun intended.

Go tell your friends at GBI. The Tom Allen haters tears will give me plenty to drink in the near future.
They are doing fine as well but for IU football this is a pretty phenomenal run the last couple weeks. Allen knows what he needs as he coached for 3 years at Ole Miss who was the whippin child for years before Freeze got there and made them competitive. So as far as knowing how to make a program competitive CTA has been in the toughest league at the bottom building up and gets mean, physical, fast kids. I trust his judgement!

Not to mention the production Ballou and Rhea are getting in regards to team speed is just mind boggling!

Anything for Purdue will look better than the Hazell years. That was pretty bad recruiting overall, much like the Lynch years here. IU has one thing that is being overlooked in all of this and that is all the kids from the Florida pipeline. There is an X-factor in that calculation that recruiting sites don’t account for but it’s there. And, they don’t factor in the level of play (big high school vs. small)

They had a good start. But we are quickly catching up.

Purdue just got 7 or 8 commitments in the past 5 days or so. Similar to IU. Good start for both programs. We are after a number of really good receivers that are highly rated that will probably decide in coming months. Our crazy string of commitments every day is probably coming to a close as our higher targets like David Bell and JJ Weaver take longer to decide

Btw don't take this as an insult but Allen's recruiting reminds me of Danny Hope.. who actually was a good recruiter. He got most of his guys from Florida and southern states

are you opposed to the southern strategy?

With more support from the administration it may have worked out better for Purdue. Hope was hamstrung by a school whose leadership didn't seem to care at all about football.

Doesn't appear to be the case with IU given the improvements to the stadium and other facilities.

It's not that Hope and Hazzell recruiting Florida was the problem, it's that they totally ignored Indiana. I think if would be ideal if Indiana could get four or five of the top Indiana guys and then fill out the class with southern guys.

Ole Miss cheated their tails off in recruiting and Freeze was fired for it. It should be noted that CTA and Heard appear to be clean, but I'm not sure I want our recruiting compared to theirs when CTA was on the staff where that occurred.

Ummmm they went after the same type of kids it just so happened Hugh Freeze had nightly entertainment on speed dial and thats why they got in so much trouble. Geeez

If you go by Rivals rating per player which is by quality and not quantity purdue is in 12th place in B10 at the present time. t.

They had a lot of problems with some of those kids as well. I trust Allen has higher standards for player character.

Their recruiting should be through the roof right now. Tons of PT to offer and the strong showing in Brohms first year.

Count on it.

Now can we focus a little more on our "own" recruiting?

We'll set things right with pu in November. Personally I'm a lot more interested in reading more about the all the guys that have committed to INDIANA.

Did GBI pull a switch-a-roo and I'm logged in on the wrong site???

Starting to seem like it..

No, we have a rivalry again. We didn't talk about Purdue much when they were a dumpster fire. However, after sitting around for a year with the Bucket in Cowtown, I think some of us are getting antsy about bringing it back home. Priority one is the Bucket. It's not all the end all be all, but it's firmly number one.

40% of this year’s top-10 players in the state of Indiana have pledged out of state already. Two have pledged to IU. So, if you are planning on getting 4-5 guys from in state, you should bet the farm that you will land the rest, in an ideal world of course.

the interesting thing that came out of the whole Brohm to Tennessee fiasco was people down there questioned whether he was a national recruiter. Their current class is pretty national so far. I think he's answering the doubters and it's only a matter of time because he's coaching in the SEC or ACC.

But the set up for these classes (IUs and Purdue's) is a lot different. Kids committing there are talking about the head coach. Kids committing to IU talk about the family. If I'm a Purdue fan I worry big time if Brohm leaves because those that go play for a coach are not likely to stay committed if the timing will allow them to leave. It's a real slippery slope sometimes. But it's nice to see both programs recruiting well and building for the future.

I've read interviews from recruits saying how well everyone gets along and how much it feels like family at Purdue. But most that comes from the coaching staff, so if either Brohm or Allen get fired/leave it's not like the family is there anymore at either school.

When the coach leaves so do a lot of recruits, doesn't matter what school it is.

If you look at 247 PU has 2 four star recruits and 12 three star recruits, 24th best class in the country. IU has 1 four star and 10 three star, 31st best class in the country. [https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/CompositeTeamRankings]

If you look at Rivals PU has 3 four star recruits and 7 three start recruits, 22nd best class in the country. IU has 1 four star and 9 three star, 37th best class in the country. [https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2019/all-teams/football]

You can spin stats however you want.

You do understand that class rankings right now do not mean much correct ? PU’s class is ranked higher at this point because PU has more commits, if you look at average star ratings, IU is better. All of that said, everything will change by December, we had a decommit today for the home state school. Both schools are seemingly doing well on the recruiting trail, claiming a better class at this point is senseless, on either side.

Sure, I get that. If it were reversed, and a Purdue fan made that same claim, IU fans would jump up and say we have more 4 star recruits and more 3 star recruits than Purdue. Purdue may not even get another commitment, etc, etc. I think Purdue's class is better right now, are the favorite for Bell, and wouldn't be surprised if Grant ends up as a 5 star as well. Like you said, we will see where both classes are in December. I'd put money Purdue's is ranked higher.

Long way to go and this is jmho I'd take Robbins over Karlaftis. Beau plays in the MIC and has quality opponents week in week out. I've seen him play and mentioned before the last guy I saw disrupt plays like him was Sheldon Day. BUT it is what it is. I don't watch the tape from your recruits, but even if I did Karlaftis is going in 3A thats a big difference.

One more note....Its June and nobody has signed the dotted line yet.

We can both be happy then. And yes, lots change change before signing day.

Yes I mean because Alabama, Clemson, Miami, Michigan, ND, Penn State and OSU were so concerned of his level of competition.

Given the situation, if PU is not ranked higher something is wrong. Sure IU has facilities and other advantages but pu has big time PT to offer as well as the fast start for Brohm.

You’re a PU fan ,wearing your black and gold goggles, of course you think PU’s class is better. Believe whatever you want, doesn’t make it so. If you get Bell, and that is a big if, good for you, as I said it is a long way to December.
Not a ratings guy myself, think after the top 10 or so it becomes very blurred, our class was ranked slightly higher than Brohm’s class last year, so what ? Only time will tell how they actually turn out, glad you’re happy, so are we, now go home.

Purdue has does have a couple of very high profile commits, but the bottom HALF of Purdue's class would the lowest rated player currently in IU's class (minus the long snapper)

Danny Hopes FLA recruits weren't rated as high as Allens are.

He had some pretty good ones. Ricardo Allen, Gabe Holmes, Josh Johnson. They were all 5.6-5.7 OJ Ross, Mcburse were 4 stars. He actually had the 4th best class in the Big10 at one point. Allen is doing a good job tho

Oh and George K is ranked #12 OVERALL in the country at 247. He is a complete stud, praying we can hang on to him but sounds like he is 100% in

I have a master's degree from IU Bloomington, which is probably more than many here on the free board can claim. I choose to support my undergrad in athletics though. That said, I follow recruiting at both schools and they are rivals. It's a Purdue thread started by an IU fan.

Never thought I'd see a fan making fun of someone that got a degree at the school they cheer for. I was just bringing context into the conversation. A masters degree these days doesn't distinguish a person in the workforce all that much.

Sorry if that's how it sounded. I wasn't trying to take a shot. It's common knowledge that most people in the state of Indiana that didn't go to college, or grew up in Indiana but went to college out of state, are IU fans or ND fans by default.
