Purdue grads flexing over IU's loss

Yes, experiencing more wins than Purdue ever has, beating them 66-0, and reaching the college football playoffs, which PU has never played in, has been great.

Why wouldn't you? Marion is an innovative young offensive coach. Odom is a failed P4 defensive coach, similar to Walters, and Marion is the main reason for UNLV's success. You really want another defensive coach dependent on hiring the right offensive coordinator? PU should have hired a coach with an offensive background.
How has Odom failed? For going .500 at Mizzou at the age of 40 while fighting NCAA sanctions inherited from their best coach ever? Including a 4-8 rebuilding season. Or winning at levels never seen at UNLV, where he hired a young OC, furthering his track record of hiring good young coordinators?

Idc if there are an offensive or defensive HC. I want a guy that’s a good HC and Odom seems to be that. An experienced coach who has had successes and failures and has a track record.

Odom was terminated from Mizzou, his only P4 head coaching job: he was below .500 in the SEC. You want a coach that has failed rather than succeeded at the P4 level? Odom needed to bring Marion with him, and he didn't. Walters is available, though. If Odom whiffs on the OC, then how is that any different from Walters?

Because there were options available that were proven winners and PU chose someone who fired up, no one. That's how. You can argue nonsense all you want but it's never a good idea to hire a coach who was previously fired for being below mediocre. I personally, LOVE this hire for Purdue.

Odom has already proven to be a better HC at the P5 level. But you are correct. Coaches typically don’t grow over their careers. As a was a .500 coach through his first four years at P5. Sark hadn’t had a 10 win season before Texas. Dykes didn’t make the natty at TCU. Wait. Coaches do get better with experience.

So it is a red flag that Odom hired Walters who has proven to be a really good DC over time? Terrible head coach, good DC. Both can be true. Walter’s just got the head coaching job to quick. Still think he ends up being a good HC.

You are correct, Marion didn’t come, but he’s had success at finding young talented coaches.

Cute you think the west schedule is why Brohm left. lol had zero to do with that and everything to do with Louisville being his Alma Mater. Don’t act like Purdue routinely beat the west and got smoked by the east.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Purdue’s OC hire isn’t young nor did he call plays at his previous stop. I thought I read where Odom fired him once before at Missouri where they previously worked together.

He’s had one losing season in 6 years. How’s this below mediocre? Who were the better, proven winner options you are referencing?

Haven’t read up on him that much tbh. Quick research says he wasn’t a part of Odoms staff as a HC. Odom hired Heupal as OC for his first staff.

Got ya. So you are referring to the Purdue board with like seven people on it. Ok.

And I wasn’t shocked. I knew they had the money to fire Walter’s, hire a good coach, and invest at a level needed to win. I’m guessing you told me otherwise. The fired Walter’s and went out and got a really good coach that gave UNLV their best two football seasons maybe ever.
They had to have the money to fire your coach even if they needed to go beg for it.

Haven’t heard of the coach nor much commentary. He needs to create a pretty steep turnaround given how badly the program looks

Henson was the OC at Mizzou from 2013 to 2015. Odom went in a different direction for OC when he started at Mizzou in 2016, lol

Talent wasn’t bad. Coaching was horrible. I’ll stand by that.

Not sure where you saw they had to beg for the money. Who did they have to beg?

Lol What a stat to use. He was 13-19 in conference at Mizzou. Is that the conference record you're looking for? He was .500 overall at Mizzou. Is that what you're looking for? He is 0-3 in bowl games. Is that what you're looking for? Don't pretend this was a good hire. Purdue could've done so much better....if they wanted to.

A perfect example of a great hire would've been Jason Candle out of Toledo. Dude has a LONG track record of proven success at Toledo which is really hard to do considering talent is always looking to leave G5 conferences.

Purdue's new coach struggled at Missouri, true. Curt Cignetti has never beaten a ranked D1 FBS opponent in his career. Neither stat defines their potential going forward.

Cignetti had ZERO experience at a P4 conference as a head coach and has never beaten a ranked opponent, but it seems to have been a good hire, no? Hiring coaches is always a risk. What was Saban's record at MSU? Good but not earth shattering. He seems to have done pretty well at Alabama.

Jason Candle won 7 games this year and has been so good everyone has been trying to hire him….

Odom went 19-8 at UNLV in two years. Pretty good. Seems Odom is getting better and learning from early mistakes. His Mizzou program was under sanctions as well. That makes it more difficult. Add in he was super young.

Purdue could have done better. Sure. They could have paid 10 mil a year with an unlimited coaching salary. Instead they went for 6 and unlimited. He Odom not coached at Mizzou, he’d be considered a great hire on record alone.

The Purdue rivals board is a joke that no one post on. The post you are referencing is a thread of like 4 people. I cancelled the rivals membership a month ago after they offered 3 free months. There is minimal iu talk on purdues main board. It’s about Purdue football mostly. Shocked they got Odom though based on what I read here. I was told here they couldn’t afford to fire Walters and refused to spend money.
There is a lot of activity on that board over there and not just four people and you know it.

Lmao! Who said anything about being a P4 coach. The example I gave was Jason Candle who has never been a P4 coach. Lol.

My entire point was you should hire a coach who has a long track record of being successful. That's the ticket and PU had a chance to get that ticket and settled for a mediocre. You can defend it all you want, I love it for you guys.

Odom was an alum at MO and was fired after just three years. Seems to think what else was going on ? Plus he is a defensive coach. We still do not know what really happened with the Sulka situation. We don't really know how things will turn out but like I've said whoever they hired your folks would say it was a solid hire regardless.

Listen, let's keep this. No need to defend yourself now. Let's just wait and see what excuses you have after I'm right.

Odom got 4 years. Went 4-8, 7-6, 8-4, 6-6. While the program was under sanctions from the previous coach, which is their HOF coach. So he had sanctions and had to follow big shoes at the age of 40.

We do know what happened with Sluka. His OC promised him money without telling Odom. Odom almost fired him mid-season from the sounds of it. It’s why Odom was never planning to bring him to Purdue. When Odom interviewed, he did so without planning to bring him.

13-19 in the SEC, which is the exact same BT record of Danny Hope. It is great watching you gush over Odom the way you gushed over Walters.

If that's true your saying Odom couldn't control his people. Also the sanctions were for one year. 4 schollies gone.

I’m not really gushing. Just stating facts. Idk if it will work out not. 19-8 is pretty good though. 19 is the same number of wins curt had in his two years before iu.
Think you have another Cignetti, huh? PU is trying so hard to copy Cignetti. In one year, Cignetti has done things PU hasn't been able to do their entire history.

Never said that. Zero evidence they are copying iu. They hired a coach from a smaller school. That’s not something iu did that was unprecedented. But no, I don’t think Purdue has another cignetti. They have a guy that has beaten a top 25 team, not claims to have beaten a top 25 team.

Nah, Purdue sux bud. Cignetti has had more playoff games than Purdue...heck, the entire B1G West division, combined. You guys are in the minor leagues. Lol

63-33..... you likely won't live long enough to see that number flip.... LOL
I thought what happened in the 50's was "dusty". The only dust that matters is that in which Cig has left PU. The series has been a lot more competitive as of late, and you just got smoked 66-0 and fired your coach. Good luck with your P4 retread, and let me know when PU wins 11 games or reaches the college playoffs.

Missouri has gotten significantly better under Drinkwitz after firing Odom. That’s fairly telling.

Odom didn’t bring Marion because Marion took a head coaching job elsewhere lol

You’ve got it bad.

You are what you accuse them of being.

You are obsessed
Odd, considering my post was a bit of a compliment and far less pejorative than others around it.

If you allowed reading comprehension to guide you rather than emotion and bitterness you would understand that my point is that Purdue has been and will continue to be a program that cannot allow the Walters-level results to continue.

They HAD to get the money regrdless of how, and they did it.

The new coach, whom I know very little about, has a steep climb from a 1-11 season, much talent portalling and another tough schedule next season. Most objective Purdue fans would agree with both points.

So, again...feel free to correct or criticize anything I post, I only ask that you:

1. Criticize or correct something I actually posted,

and

2. Either understand or ask for help from others on what I posted means. Hell, ask me...I will answer a civilized question with a civilized response.

Hope this helps.

Merry Holidays to all!
