Jace Rayl is the grandson of I.U. basketball legend Jimmy Rayl, who still owns the single-game scoring record at Indiana, where he scored fify-six points in two Big Ten games. He was Mr. Basketball in 1959 and won the Trester Award.

According to court records, Kokomo Police Department officers on Tuesday arrested and preliminarily charged sophomore guard Jace Rayl for operating while intoxicated – endangering a person and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to at least .08 but less than .15.

Pretty sure he wasn't on the team anymore, prior to this incident.

56 points and no 3 point shot. They were called the Hurryin Hoosiers for good reason. I think Branch McCracken had 2 of our 5 National championships.

Here is some BoilerPlate language that they have used sucessfully in the past to dismiss bad behavior.

"The Purdue Athletic Department was made aware of an incident involving student athlete XXX on the night of XXX. The alleged incident was reviewed by law enforcement, campus officials and the athletics department. XXX is an outstanding representative of this university, and it's unfortunate that he has to address accusations made that do not have merit and are unfounded. We consider the matter closed."

Except he wasn't a student athlete at the time of the arrest…

DUIs are bad under any circumstances as they endanger innocent others. Not an excuse, the death of his relatively young father just about 2 weeks before was likely a major contributor to very bad decision making.

Sounds a lot like an excuse.

Not surprising BoilerN was watching the IU boards on a Saturday night during the offseason. Responded in about 40 minutes. Being obsessed with IU is a 24/7 lifestyle.
He is here more than most of us are. Apm1003/arcb102000 is the same way.

I posted that it was not an excuse. He clearly did a very bad thing. Lucky for him, nobody was injured. I am sure that he will face consequences for his actions. I was just providing context based on the reports of the event.

Well, if that is so, please provide the post of recent days. But you can't, as it does not exist. But if you can it should be easy, as according to you, there are many to choose from. Let's all see them, prove that you're right and not making things up.

Had. Yes. But key word is had. Was not on the team when this happened. He was a regular student. Not sure what I'm dealing with here…
You're on an opposing teams message board, on a Monday morning, defending a kid that isn't even on your team's roster any more. You're not the one "dealing" with anything. You're choosing to catch the flack, for some reason.

He brings attention to himself because he adores the spotlight.

He told me I was dealing with something. You are correct. I'm not dealing with anything. Not sure where the confusion is.

First of all, I am not defending him. He clearly did a very bad thing and was fortunate that nobody was hurt by what he did. He could have ended up in prison and ruined his life. As it is, he will face legal consequences that he has earned through his behavior. I hope that he learns a lesson and that there is no repeat of a severe lack of judgment.

Having posted that, he is a young man who has suffered the recent loss of his father at a young age. While not excusing his actions, I can see where a depression caused by an event like that could cause one to do something that they otherwise might not do. And that is especially true with a young person. The expression: "Wisdom comes with age." does have merit. So while he did something quite seriously bad, one can have a degree of sympathy for someone who has made a grave error. That's called having compassion, but not excusing. There is a difference. At least, that's what they taught me at church.

No one cares. Go away.
