pu losers again

Love of fives is dumb
Here but now they're bums
Came the last night of madness
And it was clear Painter couldn't go on
Then the door was open but no wins appeared
The whistle blew the train disappeared
The tripple flew and the rim appeared
Saying don't be afraid
Come on, Painter (and he had no fear)
And he ran to Pete (then they started to fry)
They looked backward and wondered why (they still had no banners)
He had taken Pete's hand (they still had no banners)
Come on, Painter (don't fear the reaper)

You aren't the arbiter of 'what a true IU fan is', sorry. I didn't attack anyone personally or demean anyone's character. Just a light-hearted barb based on song lyrics. Meanwhile you insult and personally attack fellow Hoosier fans who as far as I can tell did nothing to you.

Well, I'm a big departure from IU orthodoxy. I was rooting for Purdue and Indiana guys over Sampson and UH. Before you express outrage, I've been a fan of IU BB since the days of Archie Dees and Hallie Bryant. I have a longer history of loyalty to IU than most of you have years.

An added piece of irony is that I used to tutor UH athletes.

So here are are a couple of observations on the game.
  • Braden Smith was absolutely fouled with 2 seconds to go. The Houston guard Uzan pushed Smith off on a dribble drive with an extended arm. The announcers called it a foul; the referees swallowed their whistles.
  • Sampson's triple option, inbound play from under basket was genius. Braden Smith, guarding the inbound pass, X'd out to cover a double screen on the weak side. The inbounder passed to the center, stepped in, received a returrn pass and won the game.
  • Painter is a really good coach. UH is a better team than Purdue and would win 4 of 5 games in a series.

Exact response that I figured. But your verbiage is beautiful. Most of us are here to talk about IU basketball. What does PU have to do with any of that?

Now see guys, this is legit commentary compared to the heading Purdue loses again. Fred understands what IU basketball should be, you guys are just envious of PU.

Jeez. In state rivalries are not uncommon. It’s just one of the things that sports fans do. I always saw UK as our main rival back in better days but don’t find PU a strange rival especially for IU grads from Northern Indiana.

Just south of us UK and Louisville are similar. Farther south you have Auburn-Alabama. Sure OSU-UM is a huge cross state rivalry. In Houston football circles the Cowboys are hated. Rivalries are a part of sports and I can’t understand the view that an in state rivalry is some kind of moral failing.

I also understand the position that-They are Indiana kids and so I will support them. I can’t see either position as inherently good or bad. It’s just sports so tribal conflicts played out without fatalities. In the days of the Roman Empire there were fan clubs for various groups of gladiators that did come to blows. Now you have soccer hooligans that fight and not that long ago the Browns Dog Pound went on the road looking to fight (previous incarnation of the Browns). For IU fans and Purdue it’s about harmless fun-not fighting with bicycle chains and tire irons.

A few seasons ago the Cowboys played in Houston and the courts were clogged for a few days.

Groups of IU fans often claim the moral high ground for one position or another and don’t believe it’s as common elsewhere but I could be wrong.

Yea, IU-PU is pretty harmless. I'm glad they lost, they sure as hell don't want us to win.

If someone cheers for PU because they have Indiana kids on their roster or someone doesn't like Houston, okay fine. It's a free country.

I was thinking it would be a double digit loss, but can't say I didn't enjoy that they were on the edge, again, of thinking they were going to accomplish something and then had it snatched from right in front of them. Yes ABY, it's shallow, but when we suck, can't help that I enjoy watching Purdue invent new ways to lose.

It's a very Purdue way to lose, that's for sure.

"Iu sucks! Iu sucks!"

My political view:
The state of Indiana should be proud to boast large, high quality schools - ND, PU, IU - with multiple smaller quality academic schools.
PU is nationally great in providing education in engineering, agriculture, and veterinary medicine.
PU basketball has been a stronger program than IU over the last 2 decades or so.
I watched only the first half last night but PU seemed the complete equal of Houston.
I sure am glad PU lost.

It sure is a lot easier not to lose, when IU has missed the NCAA tournament 13 times out of the last 25 years. 67 teams lose every year in the tournament, but IU has fixed that problem, they just don't show up!

All part of the long term secret plan to set the stage for the W blitzkrieg that starts next season. Everything is in place and all is ready. You are screwed.

Blue Blood

IU hasn’t been in the Sweet 16 in over a decade and we making jokes about PU losing a 2 point game to a 1 seed. Houston would beat IU by 30.
PU losing is the Super Bowl for some IU fans. Personally, I wasn’t going to stay up and watch that game. I’m totally used to IU being out of the tourney and PU being a semi regular fixture in the sweet 16.

But, for some, since they get no joy out of IUBB their life revolves around seeing PU lose.

PU cheers our miseries as well. Part of the deal.

Have to admit I put on a masquerade mask and hid in the corner and quietly cheered PU. What Sampson did to IUBB is unforgivable unless he comes groveling on his knees and begs

Just because you’re an old geezer doesn’t mean you understand anymore about anything other than being incontinent or wearing adult diapers. Painter’s a good coach & classy fellow, but the PU trolls like Blimpy, BoilerN, etc deserve to suffer. The fact they lost in such a way is hilarious…

Come now, I don't think you give yourself enough credit. I would say by your response that you are pretty familiar with wearing diapers, just not adult ones.

Same. I didn’t expect it would be a close game at the end. Another 10 seconds, or a turnover not made, and who knows. But that’s what makes games like that entertaining.
