Keep doing the research! Incidentally, I’ve appreciated the encouraging notes, public and private, concerning my wife’s fight against breast cancer. I thought I should provide an update. She has one more light chemo treatment a week from Thursday. That ends over 18 months of treatment and her doctor said he will see her six months later. Looks like complete success and cancer free now. She’s been a “textbook patient,” per the doc. Thanks for the good wishes and prayers.

encouraging

but under the DOGE axe soon

UF Cancer funding has already been slashed, for example, they had a mobile lab that went to poorer (gasp!) and less white (gasp!) areas, both rural and urban, to give mammograms (to women! gasp!) and to do other cancer screening, for free (gasp!)

as to your wife, congratulations on the wonderful news!

Congrats and good luck for continued good news (both your family and the future of cancer research!)

Simply can't help yourself, from a totally selfish comment, in a feel good/ success post.
This is why people don't care for you.
God Speed to Mrs Aloha ! with no political comment at all! Women mothered us all!

That’s just one of many reasons. There’s a group on the far left that lack a single redeeming quality. Just humorless miserable people you’d never want to hang with under any circumstances. Orange man shitter is at the top of the list

Last update on my wife. She had that last chemo and only needs the port removed then she's good to go and will follow up with the doctor six months after. She's at work (small CPA firm) finishing up a busy tax season today. Next month she's going to visit our daughter in Arizona for three weeks, give or take, while I hang here to take care of some things. They can do mother-daughter stuff! ;) I just got back from a weeklong visit with our daughter yesterday and helped her with getting the best deal on a nice and practical used car. She traded in the car she "bought" from me. Even the routine maintenance on that one was too expensive for her. She's now in good shape with her vehicle situation.

Just remember she's probably still immunocompromised and be careful who she's around until she regains her full immunity. An N95 mask will do wonders in that regard.

Here's a source if you need one:

Congratulations and continued prayers for her complete recovery...

Sorry to hear Aloha... glad she is fighting it hard!

I've received some frustrating cancer news of lates - two forty year old moms, one with stage 2 breast cancer and the other an IU mom who was recently diagnosed with cancer (not breast). Unfortunately for her, it was Stage 3, but I am optimistic she'll kick its ass - hopefully for her three kids' sake!

Best wishes. Cancer can be beaten. My wife’s was Stage 3B or whatever is just below Stage 4. Looks like she’s beating it. My dad was Stage 4 Colin cancer 5 years ago and looks like he’s beaten it. The moms will beat it too!

That’s great news! Is there a hereditary link within the family?

Praise the Lord! I am very happy for you all. My wife's sister had a bout with breast cancer and is cancer free too.

Hey Aloha I am sorry I missed this earlier. That is great news news and I pray for continued healing. I had to see my moms struggles with colon cancer which she beat. It is always great to hear someone beat cancer even if it is a stranger. Here's to continue strength and healing.

Update - she still needs to have port removed but she injured her arm almost two weeks ago is waiting for it to heal first.

She takes ballet class, and has for years. She can even do en pointe (the dancing on her toes thing). You’d think all that ballet woul carry over into real life and make her graceful and nimble. Not so. Truth is she’s fairly clumsy in reality - in an endearing way, of course. Every dish that’s been broken in years was her dropping them. She’s always scared the cats will trip her. I say kick them out of the way. She thinks I’m joking. She fell somehow on her side and heavily bruised her arm. It even spasms from time to time which is when she’s in real pain. Where did she fall? At the ballet studio after her ballet class. This is the second time she’s fallen and heavily bruised an arm. Last time it was the other arm. She was doing radiation at that time which apparently makes her easily bruise. I can say in my entire life playing sports or witnessing injuries in the Navy, I’ve never seen a bruise look so bad.

But no worries! A bruised arm is nothing compared to cancer and she’s going to beat this injury! 😄

Getting your Port pulled isn't as big a deal as it would seem (when she heals up)... I've had two pulled and the last one had been in for nearly a year... Tell her just to think about something pleasant while they're pulling it and she'll end up being surprised how rapidly and well things go... Just have her follow the Post-Op instructions to the letter...

Forgot to add:
Make certain she's not taking any supplements that might have a "blood thinner" type of effect... The smart move might be to just discontinue all of that stuff for about 40 days prior to removal...

Great that she exercises. That’s obviously known to help. Best wishes.

That's a long time... It'll be in there tight but they should have a bonafide surgeon pulling it... The most uncomfortable part will most likely be getting the localized lidocaine shots...

Getting it done has reasonable concerns involved but I'd equate it to the takeoff portion of a US airliner flight with a competent pilot at the controls (who didn't drink their lunch [another note; schedule it before 10am😉]..).

The most uncomfortable part of the whole thing that I encountered was just having to lay totally still on a metal table while the staff pre-Op'd everything..., and then waiting for the surgeon to finally arrive.... Just hope, beyond hope, that the surgeon isn't distracted by a hot nurse on the way to you and ends up making your wife wait another 40 minutes while he flirts with the nurse...

Her surgeon is a female officer and married to a dude. She’s pretty good looking as well. ;)
