I'm very surprised there's no portal thread here...so .please post what you got....

The 4 Iowa guys (Sanfort(?). Nix, the PG (Harding)?, Freeman are interesting. Also Conor Enright from DePaul, who played at Drake when DD was there. He's from the northern part of Illinois....not a big time player but very much a point guard type---averaged 8.3 assists per 40M played with shooting %s close to that of Rice. Took a good # of 3s but only hit ,325.

When did it open, and when does it close?

Opens Monday. Don't know when it closes.

I do think there are some VW guys who have said they'll be in. There are already lists of guys on 247 and ON3 who have said they'll enter, although its not officially open.

I think 2 of 3 wv recruits for this fall have backed out of their commitments. I don't know if they have to go through the portal.

They wouldn’t, unless they have already enrolled.

Sounds like we will have Sisley, Goode, and Tucker DeVries to build around. Possibly a few other current players. We will know in the next few weeks.

Portal officially opens next week but from what I read if a coach resigns or is fired players from that tesm(s) can declare for the portal early. Example would be Cupps & Renau have already declared as have some of the WV players

Did Goode get his waiver? Does CDD want him?

Last I read his waiver was a long shot...

Even with his pedigree I'm of the opinion that if he plays significant minutes next season we'll be at sub-20 wins again...

I only want him back as a last 2 minutes of each half kind of guy... His strength is his Free Throw shooting, his 3pt prowess is overrated...

He's an extremely streaky 3pt shooter and rarely comes up with one when it really matters... I want a guy in the 3pt shooting role who can consistently make one when the game is on the line and we really Need one...

A guy who's scoring 12-15 points on exciting looking long range shots, while giving up 20+ points on the defensive end isn't what we need going forward if we expect the put a consistently Winning Team out there next season...

Who gives a shit where Iu “ranks” in the portal..
Rankings usually reflect the quality of the player. Hope that helps.

I’m not sure why pointing out that a coach given a lot of resources should be expected to assemble a roster of good players upsets your fee fees so much.

Tonje was RANKED 296 last year in the portal! It’s about coaching and culture ****tard! It’s not who’s got the highest rated portal class

Hope this helps.

Just a reminder, he played 20 minutes a game at Illinois last year and they won 29 games.
in his freshman year he averaged 9-10 mins a game and they won 23. The year he was hurt, they only won 20, which was the worst year of his 3.

To say he can't play major minutes on a team that gets to 20 wins in just patently untrue based on history--with him--and in the same conference.

You're evaluating him in the woody offense

Talent matters, asshole. You can be the best coach in the world but it is a lot easier to win with good players. My God, you are stupid.

Go watch IU play Ohio State in football and the team with the five star talent always wins.

Tonje is very much the exception. Most of the top 100 portal guys who went to BT schools made an impact. Carlyle was the most significant exception. Less so for 101-200 guys. Rare for guys ranked over 200.

Tonje was hurt in 2023-24 and that affected his ranking.

I don't expect Goode to get a waiver, but if he did I think he would play significant minutes. You may have an unrealistic idea of how good we're going to be.

For all I care he can bring in all new players to go with the three above. I really do not want guys like Rice, Carlyle and MM back.

I do. They are practically giving everyone a waiver. I’d be semi shocked if he doesn’t.
Yeah, they don't want to get sued anymore, because they lose every lawsuit. They deny Goode's waiver, he sues, and the courts might rule that ALL eligibility limits are unenforceable. Goode might play at IU forever!

Lots of people we know in the first batch of portal players:

2. Josh Dix, Iowa
4. Tucker DeVries. WV/IU
5. Owen Freeman, Iowa
8. Mailk Reneau. IU
15. Pryce Sandfort. Iowa
16. Jonathan Powell, WV
18. Cooper Koch, Iowa
20. Brock Harding, Iowa
21. Gabe Cupps, IU

Surprised they rated MR so low.

Goode is the A-typical in state player, he would thrive under DeVries. Woodson seemed to bring out the worst in the players who like structure and a solid game plan/style. If he gets the chance to return, we will see a much different player on both ends of the court.

Very curious how this portal cycle develops.

1). This is the first portal period where the extra Covid season fifth years are unavailable, so essentially two graduating classes are gonzo.

2). You also have the expanded rosters to 15, is that set in stone?

3). You also have the likely changes in the current NIL system with the House settlement. Are schools collectives able to lock down players contractually for two or three years under the current NIL landscape?

All three topics above point toward a much much tighter supply/demand portal marketplace comparably over the last couple of springs.

And if so, you really want to be swinging the biggest NIL dick, which is what IU has.

May see players having buyout clauses before long?

I don't care where this years portal class is ranked, as long as he gets players that are willing to buy in to what Darian DeVries is selling. We all like the new shiny toys, but if they don't mesh together as a team then you have nothing. Go IU!!!
Best thing he said because in real time we all saw what happens when you get, "talent" but there isn't complimentary talent as far as teamwork goes.

Dafuq is "A-typical" ?
