Phenom Romeo Could be Hidden Gem for Pistons

No chance the Pacers would draft him even if he was available.

Why? It's not a given Oladipo is going to be ready for the start of the season, Tyreke Evans just got booted from the league, and Wes Matthews is a free agent and was pretty underwhelming. Not a guarantee Bogie is re-signed either. Romeo would pair great with someone like Oladipo once he's healthy.

I disagree.
Romeo has NBA All-Star potential if his hand is healed and his perimeter shooting returns to normal, and improves. And the Pacers would have a season ticket surge if Romeo was drafted by the home-state Pacers. It would be a shrewd business move by Pacers to draft Romeo if he is available. The Pacers need to resign Bogie as their top priority.

If Romeo drops to 18 and the pacers don’t take him they’re morons.

At the very worst I believe Romeo is a solid NBA starter for years to come but I believe he has all-star potential. He's a bonafide bucket getter and that's the name of the game in the NBA. If you can look past the fact that he struggled with his outside shot and that's something that is easily correctable (see DeMar DeRozan who shot 16% in his lone year at USC) it's pretty easy to see that Romeo has superstar intangibles.

I would call them morons If they draft a shooting guard that can’t shoot. He will 100% be in the G-league next year.

Were the Raptors morons when they drafted DeMar Derozan in the top 10 who shot 16% from 3 in college? And that's with a healthy hand. The stupidity of some people on this board is sometimes astounding.

And thank God you are not an NBA scout or GM, you wouldn't last very long. Romeo will not spend a second in the G-League

If true, he is not healthy yet.
There are not 10 players in the draft with more potential than Romeo.

Kawhi Leonard stats at SD St.

IMO, Romeo posesses a lot of similar athleticism that Kawhi had. Obviously when you look the numbers Kawhi's rebounding stats standout but he was more of a PF where romeo was more of a wing. The rest of the stats are pretty close. Romeo played in a tougher conference on a bad team. MWC is a pretty good conference but it is not the big 10 and SD St. was getting pretty good before Kawhi came.

If the Pacers don't take him, I'm betting Pop is all over drafting Romeo at 19.

I thought the use of that term by the author was interesting. I admit to not seeing RL play in high school so I only have the 6-10 games that I saw him play for IU as a reference. I don't know if any of them were phenomenal performances.
vs LaLu performance (40pts)
vs Southport performance (46 pts)
Both were phenomenal performances.

Pacers, Celtics, Spurs would all be a great fit for Romeo

SG's expected to be drafted in front of Romeo Langford and their 3pt%

RJ Barrett 73/237 30.8%
Jarrett Culver 49/161 30.4%
Cam Reddish 89/267 33.3%

By percentage they are only marginally better than Langford who shot 27% but on only 125 attempts. Also have to factor in that Langford had torn ligaments in his hand and played with an oversized bandage on his shooting hand. Don't see anyone else knocking the shooting capabilities of the shooting guards expected to go in front Langford.

Romeo is potentially better than all listed with the exception of Barrett.

Romeo is more like George Gervin who scored primarily on finger rolls, drives, and floaters, and developed his perimeter jump shot in the ABA/NBA enough to lead the league in scoring.

And he's potentially the worst of the four.

I can say nothing while saying something too.

Of course you can, but saying Romeo is going to be an absolute bust ("he'll 100% be playing in the G-League next year) based on a 20-something game sample with an injured shooting hand is ridiculous. There's plenty to already love about his game + the perceived notion he can better develop his outside shooting playing full time professionally on top of getting healthy.

Romeo is a better athlete than Culver and Reddish.

I'll be interested to see the combine. Culver's measurable's will probably be better than Romeo's, so not sure what you're basing this on.
In Basketball there is more to "athleticism" than measurables, this isn't the NFL, where athletes outside of the QB mainly have to be strong and fast. In basketball every player in the game has to dribble, shoot, pass, rebound, and defend without fouling. Fine Motor Skills beyond running fast ending with a potential concussion event hit on every play. Hanner Perea is an example of why measureables are not always an accurate indicator of talent level in basketball.

You obviously didn’t watch Romeo on the defensive end. Your comparing Romeo to the best 2 way player in the NBA. You literally have zero credibility after this comparison.

That would be Giannis

Of course there can be a debate and your essentially trying to change the argument here. Gianis is one of my favorite players in league, but there is a just a strong case for Kawhi. The people that understand the argument being made for Romeo knows it’s outrageous. THAT is the point.

I never compared Romeo a guard, to Kawhi a forward.

Look, I thought Romeo was going to be an absolute stud for IU and I thought he was going to be better than Eric Gordon. He was not close and anyone not emotionally attached to the kid knows that. People would not feel the same had he not been from Indiana. If he lived across the river in Louisville, it would be a completely different story. He didn’t shoot great (35% from 3) in high school either shooting of 5’11 guards. Thumb injury or no thumb injury he has never proven he can shoot at a high level. He isn’t a great passer, he can’t shoot, he’s decent rebounder for a guard, a nightmare on defense, good finisher in the lane but struggled against teams with bigger centers who protect the rim. He is also physically weak with no killer instinct. Other than his high school hype from living in Indiana, He has flashed zero skills that will help him be successful in the nba. I was huge fan of him coming out of high school and thought he was a top 5 pick. Sorry, but There is zero evidence that suggests he will be a good NBA player.

So coming out of high school you thought he was a top 5 pick and 30ish college games later and there’s zero evidence that suggests he’ll be a good nba player? Wow. Quite the 180. So either you were a fool a year ago or you’re a fool now.

Reviewing an injured season only, in which he easily might not have played, is not realistic.

Oh gee thanks there guy, more recycled talking points.

Did you watch Culver play this year? He was better than Romeo is just about every measurable way.

You surmising that Romeo is potentially better than him, is based on a whole lot of nothing.
