Could someone please explain to me how Penn State can lose to Oregon and Ohio State, and have a worst record than the Hoosiers but get the easiest path in the playoffs and why they get a home game while IU doesn't? Who did they beat that was better then anyone the Hoosiers beat?

Easy. Illinois.

And they hung with OSU while we got blown out.

Arguably Michigan is better than Illinois and two flukish Punt situations tainted the OSU making the final score non indicative of the closeness of the game. Also wins over Nebraska and Washington were nice wins.
Illinois finished with a better record than Michigan, higher ranked than Michigan, and beat Michigan 21-7--that is, by more than IU did.

So that would be a bad argument.

Yeah, while I am not scared of PSU. They have better wins, and I actually like that the committee was true to their words of not allowing the conference championships to cost teams unless there was something glaring.

On the note of something glaring. I would have been interested to see what they did with Georgia if they had lost because of their starting QB going down. Do they get the FSU treatment in that circumstance?

This is not even an argument, if you're objective. At least not as it pertains to PSU vs Indiana.

If you want to argue PSU v. OSU...

Great question.

That Michigan team came together in their last few games, especially defensively. Certainly not the same team they were in September and October.

And if you want to compare previous games, Illinois only beat Northwestern by 10 in their final game (Michigan beat them by 44) and barely beat Purdue by a point in OT giving up 49 to the worst team in the league in Champaign! (that’s almost as bad as a loss).

There is no doubt in my mind that Michigan was the better team compared to Illinois as the season moved on. I have not figured it out yet, but maybe a nice way to end the debate would be to calculate whose conference opponents who lost games to IU, Penn State, Oregon and OSU won the most total conference games against their opponents. It won't help IU that Purdue had none but our other opponents were mediocre or better. No, don't count non conference wins.

I think that’s exactly how Penn St beat us out:

Ok, feel free to die on that hill. PSU played a better schedule than we did. Not to mention WVU was better than any of our non-conf opponents.

I think his argument has merit. Would Illinois beat Michigan @ Michigan? I don't think so. Would Illinois beat OSU in Columbus? I don't think so, either. I think Michigan is better than what you're giving them credit for.

Here’s the way I look at it. Indiana is in the playoffs. That in itself has shocked the world! So, have we been seeded fairly? Remains to be seen. But if I am Indiana, we have control of our own destiny, so control what you can control! Win out!

So now we're going to play the SEC Hypotheticals game?

UCLA
Washington
Purdue
Ohio State

WVU better than any non-con we played and it was on the road. Hell, BG is better than any on our non-con opponents, for that matter.

Which cluster of games would you rather play?

USC-Illinois-Minnesota-Wisconsin (27-21 combined records)
Michigan-Northwestern-MSU-Nebraska (22-26 combined records)

100%.

It is fun to debate all of this after decades of losing and of course I am probably proving the point that everyone gets a little greedier and even complains too much when they have unexpected amazing success. But I am overjoyed by the success of the team and wow, Vegas has ND favored by only 7 and a half. Yes Dorothy, the Hoosiers are really good.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with this second post? Michigan won @ OSU with sub par QB play. My point is, that Michigan is better than how you value them this year & I was supporting RotondaJim's post. IUs win against Michigan is a good win whether UM was ranked or not. I was not taking anything else on in my previous post other than that.

Michigan actually improved as the season went on. No way they beat OSU if they played them on the date they played that Illlinois game. I suppose your next argument here will be that Illinois is better than IU?

Why would that be my next argument? Did Illinois finish with a better record, higher ranked, or beat IU head-to-head?
Are you just trolling now?

The name on the jersey says Indiana. Enough said.
