Cutting off federal funding to sanctuary cities is something I’ve advocated since President GW Bush.
My son told me last night his history teacher told them about ICE raiding another Chicago school and that his school had already determined that if ICE agents showed up there, they will lock the doors and not let them in.

He also told them this was evidence supporting the notion that the United States as a country has done more to oppress people than any other nation in the history of the world.

The teacher told him that?

You should report that to the Principal. If he doesn't do anything about it, report it to the school board.

How did he feel about it all? Interesting moment in time with your son

I'd make myself a pain in that teacher's ass.
I talked with him at parent teacher conferences. He’s young, enthusiastic, and was really the only teacher my son has who took the time to get to know him and tell me about it.

As long as he allows a free discussion of ideas, I’m not going to make a stink.

But I’m sure a non-zero number of students will form a world view based on this teacher’s (CRT/ant-racist/post modern) ideas.

Kind of my posture. My daughter’s school is obnoxiously woke. ALEX in wonderland. But they care. And care about each other. She can come home and garner another perspective. And she has years to hear and learn the other. That stink ain’t worth makin

I'd still point out that the US is far from the most oppressive country in history of the world.

My daughter went to what I thought was a fairly conservative school system. Lots of farm kids, but also a lot of professionals - doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. Always ranked high in state comparisons.

I just assumed she was either conservative or apolitical, since we rarely discussed politics. I found out I was wrong when my son-in-law started in on Trump about Covid. I didn't get mad at him, but started to have a discussion with him. She got all over me for defending Trump. We had a little come-to-Jesus talk after that and we don't discuss politics anymore.

Of course, she had 4 years at IU, too, so that may have influenced her.
