Painted fingernails.

something to do with his cancer, think the treatments made his nails weak or something like that
Well, if that’s anywhere close to the truth (it’s sometimes a little tough to decide with you KC), I’ll apologize. Kinda. Surely they don’t have to be pink and every other neon color? I mean…

it's the truth wouldn't joke about that, agree on the color were blue the other day
Upon further review, I’ll apologize and give the kid credit. It’s a worthy message. No doubt about that. And if it’s gotta be nails, go bright as hell. I guess. I just wish he’d found a less feminine look for his messaging. Kids these days?

It is the truth, and he is a great kid. You might want to take 2 minutes and read about his story.

Less feminine?!?! Who cares what color, that is his business for whatever reason. Statements like these usually points to the author's own personal insecurities. Maybe go into a closet and stair into a mirror to figure out what your true issue is (or maybe come out of one). Sports teams (college and pros, men & women) wear pink shoes/jerseys all the time for awareness quite often, usually for cancer. You are way out of touch if you think the color of a person's clothing or anything on their bodies says anything about their manliness. This ain't the 1950s anymore. This whole thread should have been pulled, non-basketball insecure, ignorant sexist comments/statements.

The thread started out badly but became very supportive and informative for a lot of readers that might not be aware.

I vote leave it.

Pulled for what reason? Stupidity? It's not hurting anyone and I guarantee you he's not alone. We've had similar posts about tattoos and dreads in previous years.

WOW! this is how you classify/generalize someone as misfit, a weirdo that makes them a pedophile. A male painting their fingernails pink or wearing pink shirt means they are a pedophile. Ignorance really showing it's head today, I assume from sticking it out of some cave somewhere.

So idiotic/sexist/racist/misogynistic/etc. posts are okay as long as there are several people who believe the same way. Hate is okay as long as it has company. Cool, my bad, didn't know there was a new standard.

I don’t hate anyone on this board, but I do dislike your views!

man, you must stay offended every day of your life. Racist? Misogynist?... c'mon Man. Try ignorance. Educate and move on. Why would you let someone's ignorant comments upset you to that degree? You suggested he look in the mirror, do you have one handy by chance?

Trigger much? Wow dude. Pretty epic rant there for something as innocuous as this topic.

only thing upsetting is archaic views still around today. We should be way past this. Words like this still hurt people. not sure what issues i need to look in the mirror. my response was that the comments do not hurt anybody - not true. Also response to same person that said these comments were fine if others have the same view, again, that is wrong.

Not innocuous? these comments are extremely hurtful and offensive to many. People with this opinion are tearing people down, the #1 reason for teen suicides today. (Bullying, prejudice or stigma, such as relating to one's race, gender, disability...Johns Hopkins). These comments & attitudes are a huge problem today and need to be called out, yes even a bigger issue than IU's coaching/playing issues this year.

They also make IU look awful though I’m guessing the dude is not an IU grad.

Chemotherapy drugs can cause various changes in fingernails, known as nail toxicities. These changes may include:

Discoloration: Nails may become yellow, brown, gray, or black due to the accumulation of pigments or damage to melanin-producing cells.

Brittleness and Ridging: Nails may become brittle, easily breaking, and developing horizontal or vertical ridges (Beau's lines).

Thickening or Lifting: Nails may thicken, lift from the nail bed, or develop a separation between the nail and skin (onycholysis).

Slow Growth: Nail growth may slow down, resulting in shorter or misshapen nails.

White Spots or Lines: Small white spots or lines (Mees' lines) may appear on the nails, indicating temporary disruption in nail growth.

Inflammation and Pain: The nail bed and surrounding skin may become inflamed, causing pain, redness, and swelling.

Increased Risk of Infection: Nail toxicities can weaken the nails and increase the risk of infections, such as paronychia (inflammation of the nail fold).

Prevention and Management:

    • Inform your healthcare provider about any history of nail problems before starting chemotherapy.
    • Keep nails short and well-trimmed.
    • Avoid using harsh soaps, detergents, or nail polish removers.
    • Apply moisturizer to nails and cuticles regularly.
    • Wear gloves when handling chemicals or performing household chores.
    • Report any nail changes to your healthcare provider promptly.
    • Consider using nail strengtheners or protective coatings as recommended by your doctor.
It's important to note that nail toxicities are usually temporary and may resolve after chemotherapy is completed. However, in some cases, they may be permanent or require additional treatment.
