Packers interested in Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald is a fantastic coach. He’s a natural. Folks that try to downplay this don’t understand the history of Northwestern. They were just horrible fro the better part of 25 years. He regularly gets 7-10 wins. Yeah...I’d take it. I recall the years of Rick Venturi, Francis Peay and Dennis Green.

To put this in proper context, Fitz has been getting much better institutional support than the coaches during the Dark Ages.

Back then, the NU President at the time, Strotz, strangled funding for athletics (thought they were a waste of resources for an academic institution) and actually wanted NU to join the Ivy League (which is why NU ended up playing an away game in Princeton; and as bad as the 'Cats were during that period, they still pasted the Tigers).

And the admin prior to Strotz drove out Parseghian - who moved to a school that actually put resources towards its FB program.

When Ara left to go to Northwestern it had nothing to do with resources. The word resources was not even used when talking about football programs. Notre Dame Stadium seated the same 59,000 in 1964 that it did when Rockne built it in 1930.
