Pacers involved in 3-way trade for Jeff Teague

Hill to Jazz, Jazz's #12 pick to Hawks, Teague to Pacers. Pretty sure Hill and Teague have same salary this year, and Wojnarowski says Pacers plan to sign him to extension.

So didn't give up a draft pick and upgraded PG position, IMO. Sounds good.

Is Teague good? Pretend for a second I know nothing about the NBA, is this a good trade?

He lit up the Pacers a couple of seasons ago in the Post Season....but that's all I know....an Indy kid traded away to bring in another Indy kid.

So you're saying Bird recruits better then Crean? He's closing the border! Was Hill Birded?

He seemed to always play great against the Pacers. It's hard to root for the guy after having him be on opposing teams for so long, but meh, it's the NBA. The fix is in, home town attraction to fill the seats.

Here are the career numbers for Hill and Teague.

By traditional stats, Teague's scoring and assist numbers are higher. The only advantage Hill has is 3 point shooting, but Teague's coming off career highs in makes and % (Teague shot 40%, Hill, also a career high, shot 40.8%).

By advance stats, the difference between them is minimal.

By eyeball test, Teague is an improvement. Pacers have been starting a point guard whose best use offensively is to sit in the corner for a spot-up 3. Teague is much better at creating shots for himself and others. They need playmakers other than PG, and this should help.

supposedly the Pacers are in the conversation about landing Gordon Hayward. If he ends up in Indy, I think a core of Teague, Ellis, George, Turner and Hayward would be a solid one to build around.

Teague is a much more willing passer, has better handles, plays at a faster pace, is better at initiating offense, is two years younger,

and on the flip side is a small step down in terms of both one-on-one and help defense.

So on balance I'd say it's a win for the Pacers.

It also squashes the Conley-to-Indy free agency rumors.

Both have 2 yr-$8 mil contracts. Teague is 2 years younger and much more of a creator. If Teague's knee is healthy (big if) this is a nice win for the Pacers

Rather than start another Pacers thread, whom do you want them to take at #20?

It looks like they will lose Solo Hill for sure, Jordan Hill very likely, Ian Mahinmi maybe, so I'm guessing they will target a big.

I'd like Sabonis to be there at #20, but I don't think he will be. Brice Johnson seems to be a popular mock and that would be good IMO.

With the Teague trade, Valentine or Ulis seem less likely picks.

Troy Williams? Yes, I hope the Pacers invite Troy to camp as an undrafted free agent. Yogi would be a solid 2nd round pick.

Pacers should find out who Brad Stevens wants and draft them ahead of him.

He might be the one guy in basketball who knows WTF he's doing.

The Jazz apparently turned down Boston's offer of the #3 pick + a player for Hayward, so I don't think that Gordo would come cheap by any means.

Teague is an upgrade over Hill, but I think Teague has peaked and is starting on the downside of his career. His value has always been that he's quicker than everybody else, so he could get to the basket pretty easily on most defenders, and with some good coaching from Budenholzer's staff he's become a pretty reliable 3 point shooter*.

But he's starting to get exposed a bit. His motor seems to have some hesitation now and then, and he seems to take some plays off from time to time. Plus he's short, and can be a defensive liability at times against big and powerful guards. Couple all that with the Hawks already having pretty much a Teague clone in Schroeder, a need to replace Korver as a starter, plus Teague being in the last year of a favorable contract, and you can see why the Hawks would want to move him.

I like the guy, and have enjoyed having him in the ATL . . . but I'm not opposed to, and am kinda favor of, Teague being shopped. That he's going to his hometown ought to tell y'all something about how much the league thinks he has left . . . .

* I almost said "reliable outside shooter", but on this board that would clearly be a contradiction in terms, so I changed it . . . .

Draft-wise, I say get a big who would compliment Turner (still not sure whether Bird sees him as a 4 or future anchor for defense at 5) or go SG, either somebody who can create or legit 3 point threat.

Wade Baldwin would be nice, but I doubt he'll be there at 20. Malachi Richardson or some Spanard who's supposed to be a + shooter are names I've seen a lot.

Here's some more poop on the subject matter, from ajc.com: http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/basketball/hawks-sent-teague-to-indiana/nrktj/

Teague's been unhappy . . . and says he played part of last year with a torn patella tendon.

The story also says this: "According to the person familiar with the situation, the Hawks could also make another one-on-one trade with either team with other assets involved."

So, who you got to move? Just pulling something out of my arse . . . would y'all trade Paul George for Al Horford? :D OK, OK, OK . . . what might make sense? Horford for a package that includes Mahinmi or Jordan Hill with maybe Monta Ellis or Robinson III? I dunno . . . what y'all got to move, and what would Horford be worth?

From what I've read, Teague seems to fit better as a PG than Hill did. I never really saw Hill as a true PG anyway. So maybe Teague will fit more in that run/gun type of stuff Bird wants to do. They still need a consistent scoring/shooting two guard though, as Monte Ellis isn't the answer anymore as a starter. So maybe the draft Valentine or Richardson? Or a capable 2? If the Bird can fix the 2 spot, I think they vault to a top 4 team in the Eastern Conference.

I like the trade offensively. Teague is a better facilitator and should eliminate some of the stagnant possessions.
But a Teague, Ellis backcourt scares me defensively.

Gotta get rid of Ellis or move him to the bench and find a capable 2
