pacers in purgatory

The Pacers aren't winning anything as always. This was obvious even in the aftermath of game 2.

The Pacers got boatraced a few times in the playoffs last year. Let’s see if they bounce back and show some pride.

When the Pacers get rolling on offense, they are nearly impossible to stop, especially at home.

They are really fun to watch when they’re playing that way.
Most of the time with the Pacers offense, the ball does not get "stuck" with one guy. When they are playing well offensively, there is a lot of passing, drive and kick, etc. Some teams play too much 1 v 1 or run the high ball screen.

Cleveland just totally outclassed them Friday, I thought if they stayed healthy the series was over. the mental aspect of how these teams come out from game to game in a series is fascinating. Carlisle has done an incredible job the last few years with a limited roster.

Over the years, the Pacers front office has made quite a few blunders, but in recent years, they’ve been masterful. Nebhardt as a second round player is such a steal. Nesmith as a throw away in the Brogdan trade is an another good example. Acquiring Haliburton is the grand slam of all trades, and makes you wonder what Sacramento was thinking. However, you say Carlisle working with a limited roster. I don’t think theyre limited at all. What they have is a limited budget, which is what I think you were intending to say.

what teams? I hear tons of complaints on here about the "NBA style" or it's all 1 on 1, or that they don't play defense and while I'm not a huge NBA fan, every game I watch I'm amazed at how they move the ball, the outstanding shooting and the effort on D considering an 82 game season. I've watched the Pacers, Cleveland, Knicks, Boston, Golden State, MN, Memphis, Denver, Houston, OKC and they all move the ball well, can shoot lights out and defend/rebound hard (considering an 82 game schedule). Who are the NBA teams that still play 1 on 1 primarily? I just don't see it anymore, anywhere.

Characterizing the NBA as an ISO 1v1 league is tired trope from casual fans that stopped watching a couple decades ago. You’d think basketball fans in Indiana would be frothing for the quality of basketball being played by the Pacers right now.

I don't like watching then NBA for 2 main reasons

1) Refs don't know how to call traveling....at all. We don't need 4/5 steps and a dunk just because it looks cool

2) Preferential treatment to stars / horribly missed calls. They call a foul when they just assume contact was made. Not sure how many times I have seen a Pacers player duck to the side and allow the driver to get a layup or shot without even being touched but ref still gives him the and 1 because he predicted there would be contact. And for a specific/recent example, Mathurin being ejected but not Hunter? That was a horrible decision imo.

I think there is some level of playing on cruise control during the season due to the 82 games + playoffs. It's a grind and players have to pick and choose when to go all out. Waters down the game in the name of having more games/profits.

Par for the course for the Pacers, for most of the last few decades
It's so different not seeing any news on if or not any bigs are being looked at to end the class. We have to talk about Pacers,Pirates,Bomba. Everything but recruiting. I hope by the time B10 season comes around CDD will be able to hang with some of the better balanced rosters of B10 teams.

Sacramento was thinking they already had a point guard (DeAaron Fox) that was further along on the development timeline and closer to being a piece with which they could contend.

Unfortunately for them, they couldn't keep him in town so they had to flip him for prospects.

Tough for them to know they wouldn't be able to keep Fox.

It will be interesting to see if the Pacers have improved enough to hang with Boston or New York, or whoever comes out of the west.

they have been lucky playing teams dealing with injuries, I almost think Id rather play Boston if the pacers get through Cleveland. Knicks are improved from last year and will be out for blood

Boston has had NY down pretty big in all three games and the series being 2-1 in the Knicks’ favor is pretty wild. Boston is -300 rn to win the series.

Hopefully the Pacers can wrap this up and frankly realistic best case NY takes Boston to 7 games to tire them out. I’d rather play NY but that’s a long shot.

I have a feeling closing out the Cavs is going to be annoyingly difficult.

I'm glad we have Carlisle. Def hope we get NYK, but I don't see it. BOS takes the series and hopefully we get a shot. We played them tough in the last 2 games we played. Pretty sure we won at BOS...
Yea. If Cavs win game 5 the pressure is on at home for game 6. We are in good shape but it’s not over yet.

Regardless, good stuff and it’s fun being in the mix again the past two years.

The Knicks have ZERO depth and a coach who plays starters 40 minutes. The Pacers would run the Knicks ragged and the Pacers defense has improved tremendously.

Spot on.

Nesmith is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. That dude is a WARRIOR. And he signed for 3 years 33 million. That’s gotta be the best value contract in the NBA.

Haliburton has figured out. He started off with us putting up big numbers, then took a step back and figured out how to lead and get the most out of the team and when it's time to put on the cape. We just wear other teams down and they have key players that drop. The way we play, Turner is the ideal center for us. I think Sorber would be a nice pickup to develope behind him. We'll beat the Knicks and anyone not named OKC.

Those second half bombs were away.

Problem for the pacers is turner is a free agent after the season. Unless he accepts a lower salary due to not many teams out there with cap space that need a center, we will likely be stuck having to lose other players to keep Turner.

Turner's best years are probably behind him. Is keeping him worth losing other pieces? Especially given that centers aren't as important as they once were.
