Anyone going to any big games tonight?

My son's team plays at Warsaw. Northridge 6 overall in state, Warsaw 12 (all classes combined rankings).

Northridge hasn't played a difficult schedule, but has buried pretty much everyone they've played.

Warsaw had Fishers down in the fourth quarter, tied with less than 2 minutes to go, and they had a close battle with Jeffersonville...so they're more battle tested.

Great Northern Indiana matchup! Man I love this time of year.

For what its worth...I think Crown Point is actually the best team in the state this year. Obviously the good Indy area teams are right there, its hard to argue against what Fishers is doing, Lawrence North is loaded...but I've watched a lot of basketball this last month or so, and no team has been more impressive than Crown Point.

HS BB at its finest.
Indeed. Can't wait to see how our boys react to playing a team like Warsaw. We crushed South Bend Washington, who isn't Indy level good, by any means, but they do have one of the better 2026 players in the state, and a couple other college level players. Other than that, our schedule has been pretty soft. McCutcheon, Culver Academy, Laporte, Valpo...all normally solid programs, a little down this year. And none of them are at Warsaw's level, let alone some of the better Indy area teams. We'll see what we're made of tonight!!

It looked like SB Adams was off to a good start this year. I know they lost a close one to Edwardsburg, MI here in the last few days. I guess St Joe is very good this year? Odd for this old man to come to grips with the that the old powers, like say, East Chicago aren't big players anymore. Michigan City hasn't done anything since consolidation 20+ years ago. I guess Warsaw is a constant though. A lot of history there.

Lost all interest in HS sports as soon as my youngest had graduated, so sorry, no plans to attend.

Adams is talented...we played them in our scrimmage event. Hard to tell much of anything based off those...I think score wise, we beat them by 20 or so. But the way those are structured, again, hard to tell.

South Bend Riley and St Joe, are decidedly the best South Bend area teams this year. I believe they play each other tonight. Another GREAT Northern Indiana game! Penn is young, and down a little bit versus recent years. Mishawaka is way down. Washington is very talented, but not the level of team Riley and St Joe are. Clay no longer exists.

Region teams its kind of shifted from some of the more traditional powers like Valpo, Chesterton, ECHS...to Crown Point, Portage, Gary 21st Century is pretty good.

Its difficult to contend with the overwhelming talent available in the Indy and surrounding areas. But it was good to see Warsaw competing with Fishers as well as they did. And while summer ball isn't regular season ball, NRidge did beat Avon, North Central, and Attucks this summer (Briscoe was out, to be fair), and had a very close loss to Pike.

And as I mentioned...I think Crown Point is the best overall team in the state. So I wouldn't be shocked if a couple of the state title teams this year do end up coming from outside the Indy area.

I’ve seen Northridge play this year , and was really impressed . They have good size , and very good speed . They play great defense , and shoot lights out . They are a very good all round team . I’ve haven’t seen Warsaw this year , but they have always had a strong program , and play a tough schedule. There isn’t anything much better than a good High School basketball game on an old school Friday nite in Indiana .

Similar strengths and weaknesses. Warsaw doesn't have a big like we do. But they're a little "longer" every where else, and I think their good shooters are maybe a little more reliably good shooters...we're kinda streaky. I think we're probably a little more explosive. And they'll have to figure out how to contend with our big. But they're essentially the same team that won the sectional last year, they returned most of their team, and they very nearly beat Fishers a couple weeks ago. Should be a great game. If nothing else, it'll put the rest of Northridge's games and performances into a better perspective. I hope they handle it better than IU football did when they stepped up to this sort of level, comparatively.

Never was much in favor of a HS shot clock until I watched Warsaw in-person at a Regional 10 or so years ago, run a weave and pass the ball around the perimeter for minutes at a time. Do they still play that style? Isn’t that why the Plumley’s didn’t stick around town to play?

No...different coaching staffs. I would say Warsaw has always had a fairly structured, methodical style though. They were definitely more methodical when Kyle Mangas was there, because they didn't have a ton of talent around him. And he was pretty dominant by the time he was a senior, so they worked things around to get him looks quite a lot. Might have been during that time you're referring to? Nic Moore days, maybe a little bit too, but he pushed the pace as well a fair bit. The Al Rhodes teams before that were notorious for running a bazillion screens and sets for their star players. I remember running through, over, around, bouncing off, about a million screens trying to chase Kevin Ault around.

I'm not sure why the Plumlee's left the program, honestly. I've heard conflicting stories and theories out of the Warsaw people I know.

My bro in law coaches Northridge - they have a solid team. Will be fun to watch (i will be watching online).

Kokomo has lost a few this yr but they play a run and gun style completely different than when they had Flory. They play Logansport tonight I believe and I will watch online.

I know this is the great state of Indiana HS BB, I'm up in cheese land now. I need to get out and watch the Sun Prairie East (Madison Suburb) play. In 10 games they have averaged 96ppg. No idea if they have any "real" talent. Lost last night to Middleton who's center is going to stay at home to play for Bucky. Again, not Indiana HSBB, but thought it interesting on this cold Friday night in January :)

Also wanted to see the IU offered Sophomore from Evv Reitz while home for the holidays, but they were up in Indy playing two against Pike and Carmel, both wins. If anyone gets a chance to see Jaylan Mitchell in person, let us know.
