this just happened... okafor gets the ball on the post about 8-10 feet from the basket... you can tell he's going to drive the ball... the smaller defender stands his ground... okafor proceeds to shoulder bump his way to the basket... moving the defender out of position twice... and dunks the ball... fortunately, the outside refs observes this and call the charge... the announcers only refer to the play as IMPRESSIVE on okafors part.... THAT's what is wrong with college basketball... dumbarse announcers making the call that was an obvious foul and not giving the defender credit for standing his ground... just sick... who are these idiots that make these calls... just pisses me off...

I don't think that should have been a charge.

Defender never got set, was shuffling his feet. And the bump that got called, he was in the restricted zone, anyway. I think he essentially got called because he was so much stronger than the defender.

That kind of play is a non-call more times than not.

But should it be a no-call?

Whether it's a small or big defender, the offensive big is generally allowed to use his size and weight to bump against and back down another player. It isn't subtle and it is the clear definition of initiating and using contact to gain an advantage.

Swanigan of Fort Wayne Homestead does this every game with no foul in HS

SwaniGan at 6'9" 290lbs just bumps his defender off the block just a few inches at a time until he get a layup, dunk, and many times and and-one on the poor defender who is many times outweighed by about a hundred pounds.
