Osu's Kmart Arena has one of those screaming guys

PA screamer. Just awful.

Best I ever heard was John MacCauley (may he rest in peace) at Robert's Stadium back during the UE hey days of the late 80s-early 90s. Guy had a smooth way of showing homerism w/o screaming. I can still hear him saying, "Scott Haffner... thareeeeeeeeeeee points."

Also loved his apathetic, "3 point basket by (place name from other team here).

Sorry I never heard him. Just hate the screamers at OSU UM PU and others. Sure hope when Chuck leaves that IU doesn't go that way.

I wouldn't have thought you would have heard of him... just giving an example to explain my agreeing with you.

The good ones just have a smooth way of calling homerism without being obnoxious. IU has been very lucky, Crabb and Fish are some of the best announcers ever. When you hear a bad one it just ruins the game.

And zi meant that I am sorry I never got to hear him. Sounds good!

Chuck is an IU institution - much like Fisch on the radio. Both are the Gold Standard at what they do. And are two of the nicest people you’ll ever have the chance to meet.

Both are reaching the end of their careers, particularly Chuck. Will miss..." Six foot six and a soph-a-more..."

Fisch is still the best in the business but his Football skills are fading and he is 72 I think.

why are they trying so hard to be part of the show and draw attention to themselves? less is more. i think the natural sounds of a sports environment is the best backdrop for the event.

It's marketing. And it is annoying,

you should try taking in a game at fiu. worst atmosphere ever. it's like going to a rave
It's all gone bad, everywhere.

Took in a ND game last year, went early. The PA system is blaring rap music as you find your seat, and you can barely hold a conversation with the person next to you. It picks up when the players come out for warmups. Then introductions are lights out, spotlights, louder msic, maybe even fireworks. It all goes away when the game starts, but every timeout the loud, obnoxious music comes back on. Can't even talk about the game for the deafening music, the words of which can't be understood anyway.

It's all crap, catering to the younger players and fans. Gimmie a break!

The Northwestern coed who shrieks all game long was recently told to stop. I wish the two students who sit right next to the announcers at Penn State would graduate already. They must be on the Tommy Boy grad track.

Those 2 at Penn St are awful! They do it the entire game. I don't know how their voices hold up.

i think young fans might like it without music if they had a chance to experience it. the buzz of a crowd during a break in the action of a close game coming down to the wire is the greatest music of all
