Oregon St. is the home team and it might as well be since over 90% of the fans there are Beaver fans, and they participate in the tournament on a annual basis. IU has made lineup/batting order changes. The first four in the batting is the same with Taylor, Denny, Cerny and Oliver. Dickerson in RF moves to the No. 5 spot followed by Hanley, DeMartino (DH), Pyne, and TJ Schuyler at the No. 9 spot.

It will be RHP Pete Haas, a transfer out of Stonehill, on the mound for IU with Schuyler behind the plate. OSU will counter with LHP Ethan Kleinschmit which might be good for IU since they are loaded with righties in the batting order.

It's 73 degrees at game time.

T1st:

Taylor, who Kd to start the first two games in the tournament, grounded out to start the game. Denny grounded out for the 2nd out. Cerny Kd as IU went down in order.

B1st:

OSU's lineup is loaded with juniors with the exception of one senior and one soph. The leadoff hitter for the Beavers was hitting over .500 coming in the game and he jumped on the first pitch for a single.

Haas got a shallow flyout for the first out with the runner at 1st. Here we go again as an attempted steal put the runner at 3rd on a throwing error by Schuyler. A single scored a run as the Beavers took an early lead.

A DP ended the inning and the error cost IU with the run scoring.

End of 1st: OSU 1 IU 0

T2nd:

Oliver led off for IU. Oliver flied out and Dickerson popped up to the catcher for two outs. Hanley Kd to retire the side.

B2nd:

Haas faced the 5 thru 7 hitters. Haas Kd the first two batters and then a runner reached on an infield hit on a slow roller. A groundout ended the inning.

End of 2nd: OSU 1 IU 0

Note: IU has committed six errors in the first three games of the season and this one has plenty innings to go to add to that.

T3rd:

DeMartino led off and he was out on a grounder that was real close at 1st. Pyne Kd for the 2nd out. Schuyler walked to put the first runner on base for IU with two outs. Taylor grounded out to retire they side. Taylor is still trying to find his groove at the plate and has chased some really bad pitches including one that bounced in front of the plate in an earlier game.

B3rd:

Haas faced the 9 thru 2 hitters. The leadoff hitter reached on a single and then a flyout got the first out with the runner still at 1st. A walk on a 3-1 count put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.

A 3-run homer to right center gave OSU a 4-0 lead. A single put another runner on with one out.

Haas proceeds to hit a batter to put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out. A DP ended a bad inning.

End of 3rd: OSU 4 IU 0

Denny led off for IU and he flied out. Cerny clubbed a long ball to CF that was just caught next to the wall in the deepest part of the park, but it resulted in the 2nd out. Oliver Kd to retire the side.

B4th:

LHP Grant Holderfield replaced Haas and he faced the bottom of the lineup. Holderfield got the first two batters for two outs, but another throwing error by Cerny put a runner on first.

A groundout ended the inning, but IU committed their 7th error of the tournament with a chance to add to that.

End of 4th: OSU 4 IU 0

Dickerson led off and grounded out. Hanley lined out to 2B. DeMartino walked on a full count for IU's 2nd walk of the game, which is the only offense they have had today.

DeMartino was caught off base and tagged out to retire the side.
IU is still looking for their first hit. Walks are 2 BBs and 0 hits, errors are 2 with hits at 0 so far.

B5th:

Holderfield faced the 2 thru 4 hitters and the leadoff hitter reached on an infield hit. A four-pitch walk put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs.

A groundout moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out. A deep fly to LF resulted in a SF and a 5-0 lead with a runner at 3rd and two outs.

A lightly hit ball just got over Oliver for another RBI in the inning. A walk on a full count put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs. A bunt loaded the bases with two outs. A flyout finally ended the inning.

End of 5th: OSU 6 IU 0

So far, this group is embarrassing themselves. RMK would have made them find their own transportation back to Bloomington.

It's the 8 thru 1 hitters up with Pyne leading off and he flied out. IU goes down in order.

B6th:

It's the top of the order up and RHP Seth Benes is on the mound for IU. The leadoff hitter lined out to Cerny for the first out. A single though the left side of the infield put a runner on with one out.

The runner advanced to 2nd on a WP. Benes got a K for the 2nd out and then he walked a batter on four pitches to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. A flyout ended the inning.

End of 6th: OSU 6 IU 0

It's the 2 thru 4 hitters up with Denny leading off. After no-hitting IU through 6 innings, Kleinschmit was replaced by RHP Wyatt Queen. IU went down in order and we are six outs away from being no-hit on the game.

B7th:

It's the 6 thru 8 hitters up and IU has gone to LHP Matthew Bohner, a transfer out of Lipscomb. He puts them down in order, all on flyouts.

End of 7th: OSU 6 IU 0

It's the 5 thru 7 hitters up with Dickerson leading off. Dickerson grounded out for the first out. Hanley broke up the no-hitter with a single and Wiggins pinch hitting for DeMartino.

Wiggins walked on a full count to put runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Brenzewski pinch hitted for Pyne and he was out on a fielder's choice with the runners advancing to 2nd and 3rd with two outs.

With Stadler up, OSU goes to the bullpen and brings in RHP Laif Palmer. Stadler walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases with two outs and Taylor up. Taylor Kd looking to end IU's best chance at scoring.

B8th:

IU brought in LHP Ryan Rushing to face the 9 thru 2 batters and he Kd the first two batters. A runner reached on an infield hit with two outs. A walk on four pitches put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs. A groundout ended the inning.

End of 8th: OSU 6 IU 0

IU avoided the no-hit game and now is their last inning to try and avoid the shutout. Denny flied out and Cerny was hit by a pitch to put a runner on with one out. Oliver Kd and Dickerson lined out to end the game.

Final: OSU 6 IU 0

This team is simply not prepared for a new season given how the first three games have gone. I didn't expect IU to win this game against a very strong team, but the fundamentals were missing yet again. Not only have we struggled with the fundamentals, but what was supposed to be a dynamic offensive team has yet to be shown as we can't seem to string anything together regardless of the competition.

Our pitching has been a mixed bag with it being good to outstanding in the first two games, but our bullpen hasn't for the most part, shown us much. Seebold, Gilley and Buhr in long relief have shown great promise on the season with their pitching, but if we can't hit our way out of a wet paper bag, what good will that be. Surely, this will change or we will be looking at a horrendous season, especially when we help the opposing team out with multiple errors and base running mistakes.

Actually our pitching held up better than expected against a top 10 team. I figured we would not win this game but to only get one hit is very disheartening. Our defense needs a lot of work. I want to see Cerny moved to the Outfield or DH and see who the best SS is amongst the rest of the Infielders. The hitters won't stay in a slump for long
I have learned that every time I spout off about something or someone I usually have to eat my words so I will not get too harsh after 3 games. LOL.
Thanks Ptrich for your reporting and updates. I know that all of us are disappointed but usually the first weekend is the roughest. Like the song says... The First Cut Is The Deepest.
And BTW, did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!
Let's Go Hoosiers and get a win tomorrow!!

I expected to lose this game by more than six runs so there is that. As far as the bullpen, I expected it to be a little better than what it's been although Buhr was great in long relief and a person has to wonder if he is a candidate to move into a starting rotation. We still will need pitchers capable of long relief like Buhr gave us and I believe we have those pitchers. Taylor is off to a slow start considering what we expect of him and if I'm not mistaken, he did the same last season. He will get into the groove eventually.
