Understand IU football for what it is and enjoy whatever the ride turns out to be. Or, you could just stay away - life is too short to be so miserable. In the rest of my life I don't accept failure or even mediocrity. But I do have a keen sense for reality. For instance, I would love to be able to dunk a basketball but I know it will never happen. I don't complain about it to anyone that will listen.

Making IU Football a powerhouse is like turning an elephant in a phone booth. If it can be done, it is going to be difficult and take some time. Unless someone can convince Urban Meyer, Nick Saban or Les Miles to test their ability by turning around a lower tier program, this is a long-term proposition.

There are positive IU Football fans out there but they are not very vocal for obvious reasons. I'm not saying we all need rose colored glasses because that isn't seeing the reality. We need to show potential recruits that there is a base of fans here that will support them when they decide to come here and be a part of the program building process. The negatives are obvious and everyone can see them - no reason to continually point them out.

Go Hoosiers! Next up Western Kentucky and a chance to be 3-0.

Thank you. I thought I was the only reasonable one on here. Fan of over 40 years here and point being is that I am still here. If you don't like IU, please go root for someone else, and take your toxic attitude w/ you.

Felt the Hoosiers really played well. Need to cut down on penalties on D. The interference calls were close. Lining up offsides has to stop tho. Like the young guys on D though.

There is a lot to like about this team and when looking at our division, fourth is a possibility and third is worth dreaming about. I think we can beat PSU and Maryland and have legit shots at RU and UM.

So awesome to finally see ANYTHING positive on this forum. Thank you for speaking out. Love our Hoosiers!!

Historically, IU football simply has not been very good. That said, this '70 grad is never daunted -- and I shall not falter. For me, it's IU and no one else. Having been in Bloomington when there was virtually no basketball buzz (post Branch, pre Bobby) it was the 1967 football team that brought excitement to B-Town. It'll happen again. Go Hoosiers!

definitely agree we need more posters with a positive outlook. heck I haven't posted since mid season last year because...well everyone else seemed to give up and it seemed like I was becoming more of a defender of ckw than an IU football fan.

much to like about these kids and this team though. and positive results will no doubt get more uplifting and football related comments going as the season progresses

I don't think the first two games went exactly as we wanted. We won. That is the best part. Our defense can improve. I can see some of our receivers getting more comfortable and Sudfeld having a little more confidence in them.

Our running game looks solid. I like out top 2 backs and the way Howard runs the ball. I question some of our defensive calls, such as the corner blitz on 3rd and 2 that resulted in a touchdown. I am hopeful that the coaches learn from film as much as the players.

Beating WKU would get us halfway to bowl eligibility. I expect we will win Saturday and find 3-4 more wins.

Though, maybe not the best playcall, but I like the aggressive approach the Knorr is using.
The missed tackle that led to the touchdown was one that I didn't put solely on the defender. The safety had to come on a dead sprint to cover the receiver and try to prevent the first down. The angle he took on the sprint made it easier for the receiver to slip the tackle.

That call on that down and distance and the corner not disguising the blitz made a first down a certainty. The QB knew right away it would be a first down and nobody was on that side of the field to stop him if he broke a tackle.

I believe we do have talent at some positions. We just put a player in a bad position. He had to choose between giving up a first down by taking an angle to cut off the receiver, or an aggressive angle that was risky.

I agree that was a terrible call and that was the second time that half that they called that blitz and got beat twice. You could see the QB saw the blitz and changed the call so we should have audibled our defensive call.

IU fans have very short memories.
Do people really want to relive the days of Bill Lynch and Gerry Dinardo and give opposing receivers 15 yard cushions?

Hell to the no! I watched that kind of ball and it sucked! I hate prevent modes on defense. Much rather see our defense try to dictate the game and take our lumps with frosh than to always be reactive. This is much better philosophy people!

.

The problem was not scheme or philosophy. The problem was poor fundamental tackling.
Would you rather we play soft cushion?

Nobody will mention that the same kids who got burned on those managed to equalize those mistakes with a pick-6 and 4 pass breakups.

Our DBs are finally being taught to play tight coverage. Finally.

I can live with getting burned on occasion if that is the mindset we are putting them in.

If the kids tackle the WRs low, we aren't even having this conversation.

Just what I was thinking. I was there when winning in the last 2 minutes was the staple of the 1967 team. Maybe just maybe its about to happen again?

To some degree, I'm not sure we've had the athletes in the past to play this aggressive. Almost our entire DB rotation is made up of guys that had multiple power conference offers. Under Dinardo/Lynch, we would have only had 1 or 2 guys at that level on the entire defense. But still, glad we are using the athleticism we have to be aggressive

I want to be an optimistic IU fan, but I fear I'm Charlie Brown, and this is the time Lucy is really going to let me kick that thing. After game 1 against SIU, my optimism was certainly shaken. The one good thing I took away from that game was that the IU I've known and loved doesn't end up winning those types of down to the wire games. Even against FIU, when things were starting to look quite promising, I realized that I'm watching the thing with the full expectation that we're going to find a way to lose it. We've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory so many times over the years that it's hard feel like it won't keep happening.

But hey, we're 2-0. Maybe not the toughest schedule, but I'll take it. We've definitely lost to lesser opponents than FIU in the past, so maybe that's a step forward.

I don't mind the blitzing but the CB showed the blitz to early and the QB saw it so we should have change the call. I also would rather blitz with the LB"S instead of the CB's because it is to far most of the time for them to get there. Another thing I don't understand with the defense is why not in a clear passing down why not bring in a couple more CB's because it seems like we use the base defense most of the time.
