They are very good and my pick to win the B1G. But there is no clear cut #1 this season. Probably 20 or so teams could potentially win it all. But Holtmann is a beast. If I was Mitch Barnhart I would be privately encouraging Cal to take an NBA job so that I could bring him home before another blue blood steals him.
Hotmann didn't recruit Wesson, and he's the best player on their team last year and this year. He also didn't recruit Diop who was Big Ten POY his 1st season. I'm not bashing the guy at all, but he was given a pretty stacked deck compared to Archie. He's proven that he can coach, but I'll wait to anoint him until he does this with an entire roster of his own creation.
It’s a very good team. Holtmann had some outstanding players to work with and is doing a good job with them. IU and OSU were contending for Big Ten championships every year during my college years. I can see that happening again very soon.
I watched a lot of the UK game. They look very solid. They don't beat themselves. Their freshman point guard Carton looks like he might be very special.
I am not annointing holtmann but it's not like he inherited a bunch of 5 stars. Sure good talent but he has done a great job so far.
I’m not sure about #1, but they are really good. They have shot the ball extremely well and their defense has been elite so far. I was impressed with Holtmann last year. I thought the team they had last year wasn’t very talented and they still made the 2nd round of the tourney.
He was given such a good roster that I bet if he would’ve been offered the IU job, too, and had to choose between the two he still would’ve taken the OSU job.

they should win the conference in every sport, every yr, per their inherent demographics, and be national contenders in bball and fball every yr.
Well considering that OSU didn't fire Thad until months after we fired Clappy that never would've happened. But Archie would've probably taken the OSU job over the IU job had it been offered.
In theory Minnesota should then be a top ten team every year. They are the only division one school in the whole state. They have been putting out four or five top 75 players a year recently. Pitino gets none of them. The coach is alot of it.
We still upgraded at HC. Crean is literally the worst you can get. At the very least, when Archie has the deck stacked, we will be a regular NCAA Tournament participant. Hell, under Clapster, that wasn’t even a given.
