Unfortunately I agree, & you make a valid point that I think a lot of people are forgetting, or possibly just unaware of, & that is that FIU is not the FIU of old. Even though they too have sustained heavy losses to graduation, their program has risen to a level that requires a strong effort to come in to their house & win. I'm not confident that we're currently capable of a strong enough effort on the road, especially early in the season before many youngsters get up to speed. I'd go FIU 23 I.U.10.Are we really good enough to lay 10.5 against a bowl team on the road?
I say no. Especially with Ellison suspended.
FIU 21, IND 17.

I get that FIU isn't as stellar as a normal bowl team, but bear in mind that this is the same Indiana team that lost to a very beatable Maryland team on the road (which for all intents and purposes cost us a bowl--yes I know we could've gotten it by winning at Purdue, but we wouldn't have had to win at Purdue if we don't blow it at Maryland). So forgive me if I have some discomfort about our ability to go down to steamy Miami and win (and Butch Davis is a better coach than the guy Maryland had, even if his talent is lesser). Especially without a key piece in Ellison that I think we'd sorely need.Bowl team? That is pretty meaningless. Indiana finished with a sagarin rank of 59, FIU was 153. They have these things called conferences and believe it or not some are better than others. Hell, sometimes the divisions within the conferences are even tougher on one side than the other. Now does that mean we waltz down there and win? No, but if you are looking for something to be frightened of you might find something else.
Did I miss the point in the game where NW was up 21. Thought I watched it pretty closely. Did Purdue get that Nose tackle from the school that was on Last Chance U? That dumb penalty at the end looked like something he would do.

True. Which indicts the Maryland loss even more.Yeah, I get that. I'm hoping we do better on the road this year but we will see. We also beat UVA on the road before we went through the B1G meat grinder, so there's that.
153? There are 130 teams in the FBS, & they won a bowl game, so I doubt very much they were actually ranked much below IU, in any reasonable rankings. Don't get me wrong, I hope they are far below IU to night in every way, but those rankings don't make sense.Bowl team? That is pretty meaningless. THESE rankings don't make sense, many others do. & again, it seems Jeff ranked ALL CFB teams together, which is just silly, on top of silly. FIU was definitely better than that last year, by a long shot. Those are computer rankings which mean it matters who you play and what the score was and that includes all of college football and not just fbs. The reason it doesn't make sense is because college football doesn't make sense. All that matters is W/L. One team can go 6-6 not beat a team that has a win and another team can go 5-7 and all their losses come from top 25 teams. Team A goes to a bowl with all the accolades and team B stays home and they suck. Seems like a fair arrangement doesn't it?

Yeah, it's called strength of schedule, that is taken into consideration when people vote for the polls.https://www.google.com/search?q=fiu...=UTF-8#sie=t;/m/02r7t9b;6;/m/012hfxch;mt;fp;1
What do you think we would have done with this schedule?

We would have lost at UCF, & at FAU, probably at MTSU also, ODU, Temple, & Rice would have been close. So, similarly to how FIU did, give or take a game either way probably.https://www.google.com/search?q=fiu...=UTF-8#sie=t;/m/02r7t9b;6;/m/012hfxch;mt;fp;1

Here’s our winner—just one point off. But the cover didn’t quite come through.IU 38 FIU 27
