I watched replays of the Michigan-Michigan State and Michigan-Minnesota games over the last couple of weeks. As a starting point, I must say the Michigan defense is very impressive and the guys in their secondary do a great job. Nevertheless, it really gripes me that the corners hold and commit pass interference on every pass play, and a flag is never thrown. On every pass, the defender first grabs the receiver, to slow his momentum. Then, as the ball approaches the receiver, the defensive back holds onto the receiver's waste, and uses his free hand to swipe at the ball. Just as Rick Pitino's teams have done for years in basketball, the Michigan defense dares the referees to make a call. Generally, they don't. Credit to the Michigan backs for being able to stay with the receivers, and act with great deception. However, if Indiana's backs were in the same position, they would get flagged every time. The entire week before the Michigan game, I would love for coach Wilson to complement the Michigan defense, but point out how their secondary is allowed to hold and grab receivers. I know it won't happen, so our offensive guys better suck it up, or we'll get nothing through the air.
