Lexington Herald-Leader ran a story today on the disconnect in the SEC East betw recruiting and success on the field. I'll summarize four teams.
1) Missouri: two consecutive SE|C East championsips and 26-5 record (2013-15). 14-2 in the SEC over that period..
Yet, between 2010 and 20115 Missouri signed only one 5-star and 19 4-stars. Its success came after signing 107 3-stars in that period, the most in that division, along with UK.
2) Florida signed 12 5-stars and 69 4-stars in that period! Florida's record: only 14-14 (8-9 in conference).
3) Tennessee signed 7 five-stars and 69 four-stars in that period. Their record: only 14-14 (5-11 in conference).
4) Georgia; seven five-stars; 66 four-stars; Their record (21-8 and 13-5 conf.)
Of the four schools, their is a major disconnect between so-called recruiting coups, with Florida and Tenn faltering badly despite topping the recruiting charts. And Missouri supposedly recruited poorly yet dominated the league. Only Georgia seemed consistent betw recruiting stars and on-field success.
Interesting story. Take it for what its worth.
