It's clear that the bookies think Briggs (their NT) will dominate our man Murphy in his 2nd collegiate start at Center and allow the Cinci D to get pressure on Baz with as few as 3 rushers... Adding their LB Pace as a blitzer coupled with two deep Safeties and they figure they'll pick off his pressured overthrows... They have a CB in Bush who's projected as a probable 2nd round pick this spring so that's one of our WR's probably having been taken out of the equation...
There are multiple counters to the above so I expect our Offensive attack to evolve into a bit of a Grandmaster level coaching Chess match where we will get to watch Bell really earn his salary...
Their Offense will attempt to do to us exactly what we would hope to do to them: establish the run and force our Safeties to cheat up tighter in support and then take the top off of the secondary with the deep ball... They have the athletes to do it...
Expect to see the Flea-Flicker again at least once until we prove we can properly defend it... We'll probably see at least one or two other trick plays too since we've given up substantial yardage to them in the past... This time I'd Love to see us Take the Ball Away from them on one or two of those plays... Thats the only way to put a stop to that type of thing...
This is where Allen needs to have stepped up during this past week and have earned his salary by getting our Defense back to playing up to its capabilities...
Our secondary, once considered the strength of this Defense needs to relearn both their coverage and tackling technique and play up to their true ability...
Tom Allen the coach who was once considered one of the finest Defensive Coordinators in the country needs to get his game back and pronto, otherwise we'll be in for a looonnnggg afternoon...
Obviously, per my 31 - 3 score prediction, I think Bell and Allen will win their respective battles of wits and put our guys in a position to excel... Hopefully it'll be fun watching how it all shakes out...
They're good...; I think we're better... They'll be some early highs and lows but once we get in our groove I think we'll find a way to put these cats in a bag they can't get out of...
