If Archie feels “4-5” guys not locked in (meaning motivated?) why do they play?
Is the absence of motivation on the player, team leaders, or coaches?

YES, yes and yes.

My guess is Archie felt a bit forced to keep playing some this year with too injuries and by just hanging around close enough to tournament possibilities to ride it out. I hope he learned a lesson that he needs to stand behind what he says, and not try to appease the players or the masses.
 
Sometimes I'm not always locked into what my wife is saying, but that doesn't mean I'm leaving. Sometimes kids loss focus, they were disappointed in not being in the NCAA. I think you are reading to much into the players being angry about having to settle for the NIT, likely has nothing to do with wanting to be at IU.
 
I thought ‘locked in’ was a Crean phrase that was used because he didnt know shit about real basketball and could explain it using basketball terms

I remember reading that on this site abt 2-3 years ago...
