Nobody wants you back Leal

I was told he was gonna be a role player last year and was starting in February. Same people were applauding playing him 30 mins. What will change your tune this year?
That speaks volumes to the misevaluation of guys like Rice, Carlyle, etc....not Leal's fault in the least he was more reliable than the high dollar guys the previous staff brought in.

Leal lead the B10 in Defensive +/- last year by a considerable margin beating out notable all-conference guys like Danny Wolfe, Jace Richardson, and Nathan Bittle. There's something to be said for no matter how much you dislike him. If your 12th or 13th guy is Anthony Leal, you're probably in a pretty good spot roster wise. Having a good situational defender is never a bad thing.

He was good at fouling and being physical. Doesn’t work against athletic guys tho. He did do decent against smith, but he isn’t athletic at all. Put him on anyone from the final four at guard he is gonna be the worst +\- you ever seen.

Worse than any of the mid to low major players we brought in? None with the exception of Conerway who are known for their defense?

Another thing with Leal (and Goode), the are one of the few guys on the roster with P5 experience as Alexis and DeVries had injury-shortened seasons last year. Outside Conerway, and maybe Alexis, Leal is the only plus defender on the team. That's a massive concern. We all hope the shooting and scoring splits from some of these lower conference translate.

So you’re saying Leal would play on this team? I read he was gonna be the 12/13th man. If he comes back and has any significant role on this team(more than 10 mins a game) I for sure think we are gonna miss the tourney.

He's not going to play that much and it doesn't hurt to have some seniority and experience on the team. I don't think Woody implanted any microchips that are going to compromise the team with Leal or Goode on the bench.

This from someone who loves calling Leal a dirty player. How mature.
So kicking someone in the nuts is not a dirty play? And everyone that said he was dirty, like hundreds of thousands btw, are not mature?

Maybe I should teach a class to all the people that don’t understand the English language. Crazy the level of education around here.

He fared better than most against guys like Shelstead and Thornton... one of which was the one of the faster and quicker guards in the nation, and the other one of the strongest and most physical lead guards...both All Big Ten level guards, that Leal held well below their norms. And as we know, Woodson's team defense was never very good, so he was largely doing that on his own island. Its why he was largely regarded as one of the best perimeter defenders in the conference. Doesn't fit your narrative on him though, I guess...

Everyone gets what you're saying. You lose actual reasonable thinkers though, when you throw out the absurd, and factually incorrect claims that you do.

I don't think he'll supplant anyone in the starting lineup like last year, but he'd absolutely be one of, if not the best perimeter defender on the team. Whether or not that warrants 10 mpg or closer to 20 mpg is entirely dependent on how well some of these low major guys adjust to playing at a much higher level of competition.

Well if the guys he paid a mil for don't pan out, and Leal plays over 10 mins.... I assume I will be calling for his head. So this is why I don't want Leal. In no situation does he do good for the program.

Again no way to quantify that. Leal playing 10-15 mpg surrounded by competent offensive players doesn't bother me near as much as some apparently.

Am I missing something? Do people actually feel confident that all of the following is going to happen? Courts rule in favor of the impending 5th year eligibility cases... THEN... NCAA grants Leal an extra year despite him not having any major injuries... THEN... With the first domino falling, DeVries not spending a decent chunk of his remaining NIL budget on an impactful 5th year big or two, instead of on Goode and/or Leal.

I’ll be surprised if Leal and Goode aren’t on the team next year.

I will be. The NCAA has got to start exercising what little authority they still have, or just fold up the tent. 5 years to play 4 was the rule for a long time and they need to re-plant that stake in the ground.

They will 100 percent be on the team next year. NCAA has zero authority. It still makes no sense to me. Honestly I feel like it’s selfish for them to ask for another year and threaten to sue to NCAA if denied. They have no ground to stand on. Give other kids a chance. Feels like they are stealing money.
