No Kings Protest

And I think that you are falling for the same trap that Democrats have been falling into.

Apparently there was a study a while back where they looked at hundreds of cases of protests over the years and when 3.5% of the population participates, it has always resulted in significant change.

There are approximately 360 million Americans, which means that if the estimates of 13 million at the No Kings protests are correct, then that threshold was achieved.

Is it a guarantee of change? Who knows, but to write it off as wasted time is probably a bad idea.

McM and others have been saying for years that the rise of Trump was not so much Trump himself but the fact that he gave voice to a significant portion of the population who was feeling like they were being ignored or left behind by the Democrats.
Just because you are happy with everything Trump is doing right now, doesn't mean that all people that voted for him are happy also. Just like the Biden voters in 2020 were hoping for a moderate who could stabilize the post-covid world, they were not happy with how things turned out and how the administration tried to achieve their goals (thus leading to Trump 2.0)

If you ignore a chunk of the population, writing off their concerns as stupid and a waste of time, you may very well end up with the anti-Trump who is going to swing the pendulum even further the other direction.
It was one of the largest nationwide protests in American history. And on a day with rain and shitty weather in much of the country.

Anyone who dismisses Saturday’s protest as inconsequential is a fool.

Even at “just” 5 million it would rank among the largest nationwide protests in US history.

One thing everyone should be able to admit though, on both sides of the aisle, is that no matter what you think of the usefulness of the message, these protests seem to have been very peaceful. That's a very encouraging sign.

I would be willing to bet there are also millions like me who agree with the protest but don't have time to actually stand out and protest.

I bet conservative sources will try to downplay the numbers and liberal sources will inflate the numbers. But we can all argue what the real numbers were if you'd like :)

except for the violently evil stares protestors apparently got when they wanted to eat at buffalouies lol

I had seen the Alt Nat Parks post saying 13 mil even before Bowl posted it, so that was my initial info. But I also am a firm believer in the "trust but verify" mantra. That is why I put the "if the estimates of 13 million at the No Kings protests are correct" disqualifier in there.

I think the overall point is still correct though. Ignoring the complaints of the people is what lead to Trump in the first place. I have stated on this board many times that I am not a fan of the current escalation in politics (both sides trying to skirt or change the rules / laws to one-up the other side). Ignoring the complaints from the other side will not make the problem go away. Ignoring it will only make the complaints louder.
Eventually, there will be at Democrat occupies the presidency, maybe in 4 years, maybe 8, but it will happen. When that happens, we could see an even larger shift left than when Biden was president (which I personally do not want).

What's your confidence in that number?
It's an estimate and might be way off, though I am much more confident in that estimate than in the White House estimate on attendance at the big beautiful Trump egofest parade. The White House said that 250,000 people were there. The mostly empty bleachers and mostly-empty lawn areas had others estimating it at ~10,000. Possible error bar of 2,500%

Yep, I'm worried about your last point as well.

I guess I'm not sure what the exact complaint from the No Kings crowd is, though, other than a general distaste for Trump. Trump can't run again, though, so their complaint will be moot in 3.5 long, long years.

If they are really worried about and will run on reining in executive power, though, hallelujah! But I don't see much crossover in the No Kings crowd and those complaining about Biden's executive overreach, so I'm not confident.

Attendance Estimates for the Washington DC Parade (Saturday, June 14, 2025)

Summary:
Attendance figures for the military parade in Washington, DC last Saturday—marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and coinciding with President Trump's 79th birthday—are highly contested. Official and third-party estimates vary widely, and no single authoritative figure has been confirmed.

Official and White House Estimates

  • White House Claim:
The White House, through Communications Director Steven Cheung, claimed that "over 250,000 patriots" attended the parade1237912. This figure was widely circulated in official statements and on social media.
  • Pre-event Projections:
The Secret Service and Army had projected up to 200,000 attendees prior to the event810.

Independent and Media Estimates

  • Media and On-the-Ground Observations:
Multiple media outlets, including TIME and The Independent, reported that actual attendance was far lower than the official claim. TIME estimated "tens of thousands" were present, and The Independent described the event as comparable to a "medium-sized town's July 4th celebration," noting empty bleachers and sparse crowds in many areas378.
  • Expert and Crowd Science Estimates:
    • A crowd science enthusiast using aerial footage and mapping tools estimated the crowd at 30,000 to 50,000 at the high end, possibly as low as 30,0006.
    • Another independent estimate from an event planner present at the parade put the figure at around 100,000, with a margin of error of 20,0008.
    • Some online discussions and crowd-counting analyses suggested a range of 35,000 to 60,00011.
  • AI and Aggregated Estimates:
Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, described the White House figure as "inflated," suggesting that actual attendance was likely well below 200,000, with no credible evidence to support the 250,000 claim112. Grok’s own estimate ranged from 100,000 to 250,000, but leaned toward the lower end based on available evidence12.

Visual and Anecdotal Evidence

  • Numerous reports and images showed large gaps along the parade route, empty bleachers, and a generally "low-energy" atmosphere3789.
  • The inclement weather (rain and threat of storms) and significant security measures may have contributed to lower turnout1238.

Conclusion

While the White House claimed attendance exceeded 250,000, most independent estimates and media reports put the actual number far lower—likely between 30,000 and 100,000, with some generous estimates reaching 100,000 to 120,000. The true figure remains unverified, but there is broad consensus that the official number is significantly inflated compared to on-the-ground assessments and visual evidence367891112.

Reminds me of whatever paper it was at the time that had headline. Nearly 400,000 attend the Million Man March

always thought that was a dick move

The White House said that 250,000 people were there.

Let's check the facts...

The White House, through Communications Director Steven Cheung, claimed that "over 250,000 patriots" attended the parade1237912. This figure was widely circulated in official statements and on social media.
tj-mcconnell-indiana-pacers.gif

I guess I was technically wrong in saying that the White House estimated 250,000 attendees. They said OVER 250,000 attendees. More idiotic than I gave them credit for!

I guess I'm not sure what the exact complaint from the No Kings crowd is, though, other than a general distaste for Trump.
I guess you haven’t been paying attention. The “complaints from the No Kings crowd” include the following:

  • Invocation of wartime and emergency powers during peacetime
  • Federalizing and activating the National Guard without the sitting governor’s consent. First time a president has done this since LBJ in 1965 (sitting governor: George Wallace) to protect the Civil Rights marchers moving from Selma to Montgomery
  • Invocation of the Alien Enemies Act to disappear young men to a Salvadoran jail
  • Recklessly eviscerating the federal government
  • Delegitimizing judges whose rulings go against him, labeling them “crooked” and calling for their impeachment
  • Chilling free speech at universities and cultural institutions
  • Suing and threatening suit against various legacy news organizations
  • Going after big law, in some cases simply because the firm once employed someone Trump doesn’t like, by threatening termination of the firm’s access to federal buildings and termination of government contracts unless the firm ponies up for Trump’s “pro bono” causes.
  • Endorsing the arrest of the governor of California without any basis for criminal charges
  • Weaponizing the Justice Department and ordering the criminal investigation of political opponents (e.g. Miles Taylor and Chris Krebbs) without any evidence of a crime.
This all reeks of an autocratic regime.

Interesting that just post a fact and the stoll and hooky just laugh at it. I think they are just mad no one invited them to the protest.
Fact. LOL Yeah, one organization dedicated to anti-Trump activities is putting out a number that they then say is recognized by another anti-Trump group is his source. You're too dumb to figure that out, Hickory, so there it is. I know the irony of Mr. "Trust the science" putting that out there is lost on you.

Thanks. All im getting at. A guy flexing his calves over an estimate from whatever the hell alt national park is, is pre mature and immature.

Im still not sure what these people's message really is.

Any Dems on here going to the big protest today in Bloomington? If you miss Bloomington, the paid protestors will also be in Bedford at a different time. Wonder if they will burn and loot? 😂
Didn’t go, but my wife and I drove by the courthouse. Best sign, held by a 20 something woman, “I’m not a paid protester. I’ll hate Trump for free.”

Nothing burned or no violence. Mostly like that in all 2000+ cities.

It was one of the largest nationwide protests in American history. And on a day with rain and shitty weather in much of the country.

Anyone who dismisses Saturday’s protest as inconsequential is a fool.
It may have been not sure i was on a trip but all it really is a in a bunch or mostly white angry liberals so who cares. It did nothing to trumps approval at all.

Why would they be a fool?

How many mass protests on the list in the link below led to significant consequence? Nearly none.

The result of this protest will be Trump is still president, ICE will continue to do its job, people will continue to complain about it.

If yelling at the sky made people feel better then good for them. The reality is, it was inconsequential.

It did nothing honestly but make a mostly white older crowd feel good about showing up. The problem for dems is this group is old and dying soon with nobody to replace them. As long as repubs do what they are doing the dems are screwed going forward imo. Its just not a winning strategy to go for illegals and trans
