No one trusts anything the Dems say anymore. Shapiro, for example, all through his campaign for Gov promises to sign a school choice bill. Just give me that bill he said. We all told everyone he was lying and would veto. No no DBM he's moderate. Once in office the Republican Legislature gave him the bill he wanted and he immediately bent the knee to the teachers Union and the woke mob. There are zero moderate Dems. Even if they believe in it they can never govern like it.
"Yes, Josh Shapiro, during his 2022 gubernatorial campaign in Pennsylvania, expressed support for a school choice voucher program, specifically the Pennsylvania Award for Student Success (PASS), which would provide $100 million in taxpayer funds for private school tuition and supplies for students in low-performing public schools. This stance was notable for a Democrat, as school choice is typically a Republican-backed policy. He reiterated this support during a June 2023 Fox News appearance, stating, “every child of God deserves a shot” and that ensuring “every child has a quality education” is a priority.
However, in July 2023, facing strong opposition from House Democrats and teachers' unions, Shapiro announced he would line-item veto the $100 million voucher program from the $45.5 billion state budget to avoid a prolonged budget impasse. This decision came after the Republican-led Senate included the voucher program in the budget, which Shapiro had initially supported as part of negotiations. House Democrats, with a one-vote majority, refused to pass the budget with the voucher provision, and a separate voucher bill was defeated in a House committee. Shapiro’s veto pledge allowed the budget to pass with a 117-86 vote, but it drew criticism from Republicans and school choice advocates, who accused him of betraying his campaign promise and caving to union pressure."
