Today there were easily 2,000 student seats empty. East balcony was 10% full plus open rows above the concourse. Roads were tough but the rest of us got there and all you had to do is walk.

Broken record here, but Fred needs to sell 1,500 of those seats to the waiting list ( while there still is one) and let some young and low- point alumni in. 60" TVs with bathrooms, blankets and unlimited beer are preferable for some students. Let them have it.

C’mon Court. They aren’t going to be braving the cold and snow to watch this. It’s not enough to entice anybody to come out and spend money to watch this type of performance. The only people going are those that have already spent the money. Not getting people in the door with new ticket sales for this goat rodeo.

And yet...

But I keep hearing that IU has the greatest fan base ever. How can this be? Perhaps, it is not just for the team that we set unrealistic expectations?

We are talking about 8,000 seats held for students while a long waiting list sits in the cold. IUs fan base is amazing given the lean years.

With the administration's push to recruit east coast / New York kids, it could go a long way toward explaining why we have the empty seats. Joe & Amy from Poughkeepsie aren't going to understand the passion for IU that someone from the midwest does.

You are hearing wrong then.

Our fan base does not have some monopoly on “fandom” for basketball. Other schools pack their arenas and yell as loud if not louder.

And when the basketball program at the school sucks, they stop attending. That’s already in progress.

There were probably 4,000+ no shows today, with the balconies mostly empty and plenty of seating gaps on the east and west main levels. It’s been that way since the swoon began, and will only continue.

The waiting list for tickets isn’t nearly as big as it used to be, either. Part of that is the easy availability of tickets online, but part of it t is undoubtedly the overall performance and associated drama of the last 25 years. And interest and inquiries among recent grads (under 30) is much lower than it has historically been. Tickets are much easier to come by than ever before.

And pretty soon, Jim Bob and Betty Lou from Lagootee aren’t going to know what IU basketball means or the success unless it is passed down to them like some urban legend told by grandpa at family gatherings.

Why don't you rely on someone who was actually there rather than just spouting your negative ignorant crap.

The west balcony was nearly full, the east balcony was about 10% occupied. There were nearly empty rows above the students main section at about he concourse entrance.

Troll on Ordy.

The west balcony wasn’t close to half fulI, and all of the other things I listed were totally factual. If those facts are disappointing to you, that’s too bad. But they’re still facts, each and every one of them.

Lol, stalker...you have never stepped foot in the hall, leave the "facts" to those of us who pay the bills and attend games. The game sucked for the most part, but the halftime show was good.

I don't think those kids were there, it is a long walk from College Ave.

Today was one of the most morbid "Under 8's" I have seen. There was no booing today, but the crowd was subdued except for a few spurts and during the halftime show.

It's hard to watch garbage...

The student attendance has been an issue for several years. To be fair, there are still more students there than at other BIG venues, but there are frigging 8K plus seats held for them, but still Fred needs to sell some of those seats to the waiting list while it still exists.

I see you haven’t changed. Lol. But facts are facts, and what I said is completely factual. You have absolutely no basis to challenge them.

You mean other than seeing it with my own eyes for two hours...unlike you. Now before I put you on ignore for what, Ordy...the 46th time? I do find your fascination with me interesting as you have been stalking me since at least your Danapoint days...or was Kern County before that?

and yet it costs $53 for lower level. take your wife and kids and you are looking at $300 to see a game. i know that is the new standard but i will never spend that for a game. well, a final four i have. i used to go to all kinds of games in different sports. guess i'm just getting old.

i saw a lot of empty seats on tv. what do you guess attendance was?

Maybe you shouldn’t have initially replied to me in another thread, as you quite clearly did. And maybe you shouldn’t have tried to goad me with the “Ordy” garbage or several other factually inaccurate statements, all of which were easily disproven. If anyone has stalked, it’s been you. Yet another fact that goes against you. Now, move onto to someone else and waste their time with your empty rhetoric.

Not sure what the procedure is nowadays for student tickets. I thought I read somewhere that they were tied to a student ID.....I digress. If that is the case there are probably empty seats in the student section since you can't sell them/use them w/o the ID. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, Reagan was president and I was at IU, student tickets were a physical thing and no one questioned who walked in with one to see the game. Anyway just a thought as to why the student section would be more empty than in years past.

If Glass had any ounce of IU fandom, he should step down immediately. The circus of excuses are sure to follow.

You bet Ordy, see you next embittered binge.

I made a ton of money as an undergrad selling student tickets to alumni. I collected fee receipts from students who did not want to go and bought the season ( or whatever % you could get back then). That practice later changed to upgrading the student seat for $10 pre game. That has now been gone for years.

To answer your and coach jvs question, there are more student seats than there used to be plus kids who don't want to stand in line on a crappy day won't go unless it is a really big game. If they aren't going to stand in line and get good seats they can stay home and watch on much nicer TVs than we had with beer and bathrooms in much nicer dorms and apts than we had.

When we walked in with about 10 to tip the sections behind the basket were full plus there was a solid packed group of about 25 rows east main. Those kids stood in line.

East main slowly increased to about the entry level and then a few in the east balcony and some in the west balcony. West balcony is mostly young alumni and low point older folks.

There were easily 2,000 to 2,500 empty student seats and that is not new which is why I continually call on Fred to sell some of them to the waiting list. The answer I get back is always "TAH has the great environment due to the largest student section in the country". Blah blah blah.

My son is probably going to graduate from IU without seeing a tournament or a winning football record/bowl game (missing 7 of last 11, no winning football in decades on top). You don’t build future loyalty that way. IU has relied on fan equity far too long to cover up bad management. That equity is running out. Been a 20+ year process. That’s also why I don’t bash coaches, players or even AD. It’s a culture from the top. Thank BOT and Presidents along that stretch.

And that is a bummer but they latch back on quickly once things get going. My child attended PU during similar times and rarely stayed in FB games past halftime and went to about half of the BB games often leaving early with friends.

Pu has gotten better in both sports as has their interest. IU will cycle back as well.

To your point though, the fan loyalty has been nothing short of amazing through the lean years, but that may be starting to wane. Yesterday was the most sullen U8 I have witnessed.
