I spent a year working in Morgantown about a decade ago. It is a place that has stayed in the 1970s for the last 50 years. It seriously is like time stopped. I can only imagine DD and the fam rolling up last year. No surprise they wanted to bolt so quick. Takes a special man, or bear, to wanna be in Ol WVU.

Normally I would be worried of a guy jumping ship so fast, but in this case, it’s a positive. That place is a different animal.

I think DeVries hurt himself, his image I mean, by not asking for a day for goodbyes to his team and school. Or even without any extra time, at least doing something. Gets high praise everywhere for his character, Drake fans loved him. It's a weird 'clank', or an airball.

I don't know if it's true, but reading the Drake forum somebody posted that DeVries wife didn't want WVU when they left, but went along as being good for him. If true (and no idea where that poster got that from) well, gives an idea why he jumped again, lol.

If any place is stuck in the past it’s Bloomington. The city fought getting a freaking interstate. Morgantown has two of those.

It was never up to Bloomington on getting I-69. The only reason I-69 was finally built south of Indianapolis down to intersecting with I-64 is NSWC Crane ... the government got that to happen and no one else.

Agree with that. Regardless, you asked kids to buy in and sacrifice for you and the team, especially in the first year. I hope he reached out and spoke with every player directly, but it is an odd thing. What you said about his wife sounds plausible and I wondered about that possibility before I heard it. And, guess what? It was a good career move.

WVU has a great and passionate fanbase. Primarily a football school, but have always had a good bball environment. I hope they find a good coach that stays and builds it back up and that we have a guy that can do the same here. It's actually a fanbase I've always liked and hate that they have a negative view of IU, where none existed before. A great hire and wins will have them all forgetting about DD.

I don’t think coaches care where they are geographically unless they have kids in school. Even then not so much if they have decent private schools. It’s not like your best coaches are in LA, NYC and Miami.

Not really. The city and county were good with it. The tree huggers that fought the new terrain stretch between Bton and US231 were a loud vocal minority, but a minority nonetheless.

No, the city did oppose it. There have been a bunch of degrowth NIMBYs on the city council who fought the interstate.

It was a hell of a project to live through if you were going to Indy consistently. And I can count zero times I was happy that I can get to Evansville faster.

Yes, I hope he did as well. Now we are beginning to see coaches act like players with the portal: a much better situation arises and you leave after one year. I would be surprised if we see this happen often but stranger things are happening
