She looked sooooooooo good in her testimony

Shari Redstone doesn't give a rat's ass about CBS News, 60 Minutes, or journalism. She'll do, say, or pay whatever it takes to get the merger deal through.
I dont think most of them give a rats ass journalism anymore. My wifes grandpa was an editor of a big paper when news was legit but those days are gone.

Say what you want about Thomas Massie, the guy has moxie. Trump calls him a "grandstander". Probably some truth to that. But, if he's a grandstander, he's a grandstander with some principle and integrity. It would certainly be a lot easier for Massie politically to go along with everything Trump wants to do.

But I can't disagree with a single word that he says here in explaining his vote against the "Big, Beautiful Bill."

Folks, we're in trouble fiscally. As Massie points out, bond markets don't do things out of political calculations. They aren't thinking about getting reelected. They aren't thinking about how to stick it to their political opponents.

As much as I don't want to see my taxes or anybody else's go up, when will the leaders we elect finally get serious about tackling the problem in front of us?

Yes, there are. And Massie is a genuinely smart guy. Has 2 engineering degrees from MIT. They don't hand those out.

Rand is more malleable than his father ever was. But he's still more principled than most of the other Republican senators IMO. It will be interesting to see where he comes down on this bill. My guess is that he ends up voting for it.

I have very, very mixed feelings about the bill. But ultimately I just find myself wishing they could and would do a helluva lot better than this.

There will be no significant cuts or significant tax increases, Crazed. They chose this path when they shut down the economy for Covid. The biggest mistake was Powell raising rates. He should have kept rates low for a couple more years and blamed it on Covid. They're inflating their way out of it, which is probably the best option at this point.

Yeah. I don’t ever think that’s the best option. But it seems to be the only one that can emerge from a dysfunctional Congress that only seems capable of hiking spending, and hiking or lowering taxes depending on who holds the gavel.

Any spending reduction they ever do is, at best, perfunctory. And we can’t conceive of how this is going to cost us - because it’s funded by a stealth tax that never shows up on anybody’s 1040. And we seem almost eager to accept it.

The winning never stops.

Money in politics is so overrated. A candidate can certainly lose a winnable race because they have insufficient funds. But a candidate cannot win a competitive race, simply because they have an abundance of funds.

I'd be very surprised if Republicans keep the House majority in the next Congress. And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they lose the Senate majority too, despite the generally favorable map they have.

I think a lot of people are overselling the Democrats' political troubles -- including a lot of Democrats.

Well, I'm sure they'll love any Republican who doesn't march in lockstep with Donald Trump....no different than many Republicans praised Joe Manchin for being a thorn in Joe Biden's side.

That's politics.

But I'd hasten to point out that Joe Manchin was on the right-most edges of the Democratic caucus. But Thomas Massie is not his mirror image in that sense. He's not on the left-most edges of the Republican caucus. Quite the contrary.

The one major difference between him and most of his House colleagues is that he actually votes the way virtually all of them talk. He doesn't hate Donald Trump the way Liz Cheney does. He hates reckless fiscal policy -- whether it's being done by Biden, Trump, Democrats, or Republicans.

Massie is more America first than Trump. Hands down.

The winning never stops.

I just had fireworks going off in my mind, thinking of the imploding DC sink hole that will be created when he starts pushing some TOTALLY obscure reason of why he is announcing his Candidacy for a 3rd Term as POTUS.

He will never have it, he knows that he will never have it, and that makes it even all that more, "I'm gonna call you CAAAANDY" **Will Smith, 1997; genius.com

Do the shit that your adversary could never imagine that you would do. Stratigical and "PROPORTIONAL" (considering that the adversary is a simply confused hormonal imbalanced character, they are pissed for him stealing their weapon on all of the rest of us who are totally stable) !

And I'm gonna LAUGH and LAUGH, and so will He (The POTUS). Instigator in chief of the US (IOTUS). It makes losers and simple minds explode.
It's gonna be Majistical!

OHHHH And totally Profit from it, totally out in front of every persons eyes. NOT like our DC history of pubs and libs that spend 4 million to win a $175K job. AND LEAVE WITH 8 figure [contacts] I mean net worth.

And he will never accomplish a thing.

Massie is a principled guy. Is sacrificing your principles to achieve an outcome you don’t desire an “accomplishment”?
I can't help but think of reality TV, influencers, etc. Somewhere in the last 30 years, it became socially acceptable to desire fame, without caring about how you became famous. Admittedly, we'd passed the threshold on becoming rich without caring how long before since we lionize the rich more than resent them (;) at you, crazed).

I remember when this show aired, thinking "Wow, is this where we're headed?" I think it was the harbinger of the combination of the two:

So yeah, flush morality and principles--they're so 20th Century. All a smokescreen. Get yours while you can get it. Grab as much as you can, any way you can. Win at all costs. Ends over means. It all kinda goes together, doesn't it?

Largest investment in the history of Pennsylvania.

Wait a second. This isn’t new. Nippon had been looking for a merger with UST for a while. Biden (or whoever had the auto pen) signed an EO on the way out the door blocking it. Then Trump, after initially indicating that his admin would block it, is now letting the merger go through.

How is this deal in any way attributable to Trump other than he finally decided to get out of the way?
