Probably the best case study in how important and effective coaching, at that age, can be. And/or if Mack is coachable in the first place.
I strongly suspect Mack would look like a completely different dude playing for Pitino.
On the surface, could be great for MM, but I just don't see him being the type of player Pitino demands. If he goes, I hope he is a success, but that one doesn't seem like a fit to me, with how Pitino guys play and the type of player that MM was while here. He'll either go and kill it and be drafted next year, or be back in the portal next year having fallen out of their rotation or never gotten to be a starter.
Pitino fills his roster with a bunch of dogs who play hard and compete. And, of course, that is how he coaches them. MM would have to change his motor just to compete in practices. So, I would expect to see a better player if he goes there. And I imagine that he is considering St Johns because he and his inner circle are well aware that he needs a jolt.
If he goes there and proves me wrong and becomes a killer, than we indeed did make every player worse the second they heard "man,,,man,,,brother,,,,hump, like I said man."

If MM wants to be better he should go to St Johns. I think he is a kid that needs a coach in his a$$ to get his motor running, if not he will be a YMCA legend in a few years.
If this news about him being the jackass that ran Garzon off is true, I don’t really give a flip where he goes, but I genuinely hope he falls flat on his face.
Well, a Taco Bell is located just 2 mi. south of their campus in Queens so there’s that. I’m not sure what time they close.
MM isn't fast or athletic enough to defend at a high level.
I’d like to say I wish him well but I honestly can’t do that in good conscience. With the things that came to light today it sounds like he should have already been expelled from IU before he ever entered the portal. Don’t think my respect for CMW right now could be any lower.

All I saw with MM was laziness on the floor. He lost his man on defense most of the time.
Of course.... that could have very well been coaching.... and not coming down on him for his laziness.
So it will be interesting to see what he does.... if he goes to a place that plays dog tight defense... will he give the effort???

so, what's the supposed story: MM emailed Garzon anti-semitic/hateful comments? If that happened and the school/program didn't take action to punish him, I don't blame her. Doesn't sound very IU-like. Zeke, you've not shied away from guessing at and filling in the blanks on events you weren't a party to, what exactly do you think happened here?
That’s the gist of it. I won’t pretend to know anything other than a message was sent to her but as far as punishment/how it was handled I don’t know. I also have no idea the reasons for her to transfer. Just putting that info out there. I first heard about it in February. It was kept really quiet and the info on other forums was kind of scrubbed. Now that the last bunch is gone it’s more open in discussions.
Thought St Johns was the rumor for Mbako, not Reneau. Gonna be really interesting to see the development of the guys that have moved on to other programs.
I started thinking about Goode, and as much as I liked his add, I think we might be better just moving on there too and starting over entirely. When I think back to the 5th+ year guys we've had recently (Leal, Galloway, Goode, Kopp, Race Thompson), I'd say most have been a disappointment (not Leal in my opinion, because I didn't expect him to contribute much at all). Maybe it's just too long to play, but in most cases, I felt like they'd taken their eye off the ball to some degree.
Playing that fifth year with the thought of Life After Basketball might be a bit of a mental burden, as would shouldering a 50 lb monkey be to the physical.
Mbtaco might never get off the bench for Pitino who def will not tolerate the fact that Mbtaco brings nothing to the table if he isn't scoring. Pitino is a far superior coach to the cigar man though so maybe he'll be able to get more out of him.
Sometimes all a kid needs is to be firmly told what the expectations are for him. Not saying that is the case for him, but seen it have a dramatic effect at other times.
