Miller postgame - link

during the post game TV interview with Morris, you could clearly tell he was not happy with the last 20 min of the game. Way too many sloppy turnovers...lazy post entry passes, careless ball handling...first 16 min of game we looked solid. Rest of the game was crap.

The second half last night pointed out why Phinisee is so important to this team. Durham is not a natural point guard and it showed when La. Tech dialed up the pressure. Green still cannot be completely trusted not to make bad choices and Franklin is inexperienced. The ball in RP's hands in the second half last night would have led to a much more comfortable outcome.

We got sped up on offense and that created carelessness. True point guards can prevent a lot of that. That said, we did some nice things and were solid on defense. La. Tech is well-coached and has some weapons. They move the ball well and made shots. That team will win a lot of games in their conference.

I think Franklin with more experience is the backup PG to Phinisee this season.
Missed Phinisee last night in the 2nd half with Turnovers and lack of cohesiveness on offense except for TJD.

I'm sure there have been other games where the discrepancy between how good we looked in one half and how bad we looked in the other was bigger than last night, but I'm not recalling any right now.

If we can play as well as we did for (most of) the first half on even a somewhat consistent basis, we could be pretty good. But that second half brought back a lot of bad memories. Getting RP back should certainly help.

there was obvious focus to get post entry passes down on the blocks..which I love to see when you have a size advantage. However, the actual execution of the passes was terrible. I love the way Durham has been playing but he really struggled in that role. Devonte was good Devonte in the first half...actually all B1G Devonte..but bad Devonte kept popping up in the 2nd half.

We had a 50 page thread on that preseason. He's not ready for that, and won't be. Here is what he said when asked (from that thread):

ITH: "you've been described as a combo guard, do you feel confident that you'll be able to play both guard spots in college"? AF: "I think that's a big step for me being able to play the one in college. Primarily, I'm a two right now, but I think at the next level, it will be a big transition for me being able to handle the ball more as a point guard".

He needs to get his shot together. He's hitting 2/14 on 3s right now. He needs to learn how to play D at this level. You don't do all that and also say, 'by the way, you're also our back-up point guard'.

Had that been the plan, don't you think they would have groomed him for that role against the Troys and Western Illinois' of the world? You think we're going to pull that out against FSU or U Conn?
