Every coach is coaching for his job every year. Will Wade had a pretty good season and he's going to be fired. The question is " what would get me fired ?".
Barring a Bryce Drew collapse, Archie gets two more years, minimum. The standard advocated for by some of the hysterical haters here is not the same as that applied by rational folks who understand the situation and understand the game enough to see the improvement. Fortunately, the decisions are made by rational people and not by the ranting, raving maniacs who are so prominent here.
The hyper-emotional rage about Archie's ineptitude and the calling for his head (either this year or next) is just pissing in the wind and screaming into a cave to hear the echo. It isn't going to happen. The only thing it accomplishes is the trashing of thread after thread and the obliteration of any possible civil discussion of IU basketball.
The eight teams left in the NCAAT have two things in common. They play excellent half-court defense and they have multiple players who can score - including at least two who are deadly three-point shooters. Under Archie Miller, IU has proven it can defend as well as anybody, particularly given the lack of size on the roster. Either we will be able to recruit better shooters and improve the shooting of the kids we already have, or we will remain where we are currently.
Anyone who followed this program while Tom Crean was coaching here knows what Archie Miller walked into. Rational people know that it takes more than two seasons and one recruiting class to turn this around. Especially when the second season is so disrupted with injuries. There is a difference between excuses and legitimate reasons teams do not meet expectations. Rational people also understand that making absolute declarations about the likely success or failure of next year's season less than a week after the conclusion of the current one is nothing short of stupid.
