Mike Davis or Mike Woodson

There's an interesting thought process that enters when a coach is at or slight above average- as he will get positive feedback from other teams' fans and other coaches. Knight didn't get that. They were ticked. He beat their $%# and they didn't like it. The minnesota governor was livid at Knight. Keady was angry. Michigan hated him. Lou Henson hated him. They didn't go on record and defend him. They piled on when reporters uprooted incidents.

Tony Kornheiser of the Washington Post on Bob Knight:
“[He] has a few guys he lets inside the ropes. I have been one of them. I’m attracted to his intellect and his unexpected charm, and frightened of his combustion.

“I said to him once, ‘I would never play for you.’

“And he grabbed me by the roll of flab around my stomach--and pinched hard--and said, ‘I’d never recruit you.’

Izzo and Isiah both openly defended Woodson and suggested he's doing fine.
But he didn't make the tourney with Reneau, Mgbako and Ware on the frontline and he probably won't make it again this year with Ballo, Tucker, Goode, Carlyle, and Rice. That would have been inexcusable under Knight and it has been preposterous to see just how long it has been since IU could even claim they were a top 32 team 2 seasons in a row.

It is very hard to believe that even though IU still claims Indiana has a strong g basketball program, every single Big Ten team except Rutgers can claim they've had a season as good as Indiana's best of the past 9 seasons. It's true. Every team except Rutgers has had at least a 23 win season in that time.

im not anti-Crean. after all, he created the scenario of the Wat Shot and one of the best AH memories. But take Dwayne Wade out of his history and would IU have hired him? maybe. maybe not. but DD might have produced a better program over the years than what we have endured. especially recently. we will never know.
I don’t think he’s a candidate for IU without Wade…but he recruited and developed him, why wouldn’t he get the credit for that? He also recruited and developed guys like Wat, Hulls, Zeller, Yogi, and Olidipo.

No chance Dakich would have ever had a group like the 2 Zeller teams. No idea if he would have gotten IU to a solid program or not, but I’m glad he didn’t get the chance because 1) he’s a douche bag 2) A couple of my favorite teams to watch and follow wouldn’t have happened.

Yes. We were the 3 seed. 3 games back of Purdue, while also sweeping them, I think.

Yes, I can too. Everyone craps on Woodson so much that it's easy to forget anything positive.

And before everyone jumps on me, no, I'm not saying we should keep Woodson.
the 3 game losing streak was a head scratcher. If not for that they might have challenged. But, as has been the case with all of Woodson's teams, they didn't get out to a good start.

weird to think about: if you can suppress the distaste for DD the radio guy, would we have been a better program had we retained him as head coach?
In 10 years at Bowling Green, he went to the NIT twice. 89-89 in conference play. 156-140 overall. If not for being a former player/assistant, I don't think he would have been considered. It would have been a tough sell to the fans at that time.

I thought he was an idiot when he played but realized during his involvement with the Felling fiasco he was a major self serving douche participating, at a minimum passively, in the conspiracy against RMK. His current click bullshit is confirmation. You are right-self serving rotten douche. I know passively but believe actively because he thought he could undermine RMK and become IU’s coach. If RMK could defend himself he would kick Dakich’s ass for suggesting he threw games for gambling. You can’t get any lower than Dakich-absolute scum.

Davis.

Maybe not a better coach, but I have a lot of respect for Mike Davis the person. In recent years he's made some very respectful and complimentary statements about Indiana.

Sure he's made some errors and has had to reevaluate some stuff, but overall, he is someone worth being associated with.

If you look at the chain of events starting with RMK then Dakich and Fellling were important players that led to where we are now. Both low talent self centered MFers.
