Any guesses on who they hire?
Could have an interesting domino effect.

Remember a couple of years ago the rumor of Beilein retiring and Harbaugh pushing for brother in law Crean.

Pitino almost took that job instead of UL. Maybe he will try to go get it now. Not sure they would hire him but it would be ironic.

Maybe I don't follow UM close enough, but there isn't a list of former UM players or longtime assistants that come to mind as ready to coach.

Those that thought Steve Alford was good enough for IU should be bringing his name up. I'm trying to think of a coach that understands the B1G and would see UM as a career improvement. It won't be Donovan or Stevens.

Chris Collins? It is hard to judge success at NW, but he has done as well as anyone.

Michigan mainly cares about football and filling 100,000 seats in The Big House.

That is exactly why Dane Fife should strongly consider taking the Michigan job if offered. There is no telling how long Izzo will remain Head Coach, and he could be waiting forever. If the MSU situation blows up into a full fledged Scandal (criminally or NCAA Investigation), Fife is rightly or wrongly damaged goods due to his association with the program.

As far as "Coach in Waiting", Jim Boehim had one of his former players Mike Hopkins as his designated Successor In Waiting. Well Boehim is approaching age 80 and still coaching. Hopkins got sick of waiting and took a Head Coaching job out West (Washington I believe).

Michigan isn't going to hire Porter Moser.

Mike White from Florida perhaps.

I don't think Michigan fans would be thrilled if it happened, but I do believe Dane Fife would be both a realistic and excellent hire.

I don't see Billy Donovan taking the job unless he was offered Calipari type money. Brad Stevens isn't leaving the Celtics. I highly, highly doubt UM would wade into the mud for Rick Pitino. Other than that, there aren't any other realistic choices among the elite level head coaches.

My Michigan Fan Colleague swears there is smoke surrounding Gregg Marshall. I'm not seeing it.

Penny was involved in grassroots basketball and has recruiting connections due to it. Rose and Webber have not and do not.
Webber has recruiting connections that goes way back to the
Detroit Country Day High. He knows plenty!
