McCollum to Iowa

I don't think there's any signs that McCollum won't be a great recruiter. Word on him has been that he can recruit. No reason to think that only applies to D1 cast-offs. I don't doubt he wants the best NIL he can get too. He's smart .

Yes, but this might be why he probably wasn’t a good fit at IU. As Mike DeCourcey likes to point out, the last team to win the ncaa championship without a first round NBA draft choice on their squad was IU in 1987. You need nba talent on your team to win it all.
Who knows how somebody will do in an Indy car until they get in one and start driving it? Being a winner is a good start. I'm not looking forward to seeing how he does with non-D2 players.

Of course, but that’s limited to the nil budget he’ll have. He’s not likely going to get all-B1G caliber talent.

Honestly, I don’t care how he does. I just want DeVries to take the talent he’ll be able to get at IU and win.

Iowa just hit a grand slam. I hope this doesent come back to bite IU in the a$$. I like the DeVries hire and believe he can be very good but i'm jealous of them landing McCollum.
Fran did a good job at Iowa.

I think the best case for Iowa is another Fran with a couple NCAA runs sprinkled in. That was ultimately his downfall, he never could break through in March.

Iowa is a bottom half B1G basketball job. People need to be realistic about what success looks like there.

Plus Iowa has always had a good crop of homegrown players who will be there for the picking for McCollum. He will do really really well.

McCollum is a really good hire, but will be facing a lot of recruiting competition in the form of Otzelberger, DeVries, etc. I wonder how high school recruits will evaluate McCollum's style of play compared to others. Time will tell.

Like IU will? Under DeVries? Yes.

McCollum will need NIL too. But I agree that his eye for what he needs is probably so good he can do more with less. (Hoping DeVries also has that keen judgement and I think he does.) I also don't see how their player salaries will be much less once revenue sharing levels the playing field for all the B1G. Percentage differences should be less.

I wanted McCollum badly, but DeVries is high level. I have no problem with Dolson's guy. Our guy!

Pretty pumped actually. DeVries has been training himself to run a big time program for a long time. He's ready.

Iowa and Indiana are both sub 500 teams in the Big Ten this Century! IU has just used more coaches and money to get there.

Your coach was .500 against Woody. Your coach has been to as many FF's as Mike Davis after 25 years. You're lucky IU's admin has been awful. If DD is the guy, you'll have your work cut out for you.

Maybe DD will be better, would have rather hired Ben tho.

DDD has a chance!!!

Cav didn't sink his career by initially over-hyping him as the 2nd Coming of BK and would have rather had McCollum (and so would I have)...!!!!!

Tell you what, I'll agree to continue to be semi-negative and slightly underwhelmed by DDD if you do Cav... The rest of the fan base can continually profusely thank us later...😎

I think he's going to do well at Iowa. He'll have time to make mistakes and learn from them that he wouldn't have here. They will be relevant again.
I'll take the other side of that bet. Iowa is extremely difficult place to win at. McCollum will struggle to be better than Fran.

1) I think either DDV or McCollum would have been significant upgrades over Woody (and Archie and probably Crean)

2) my #1 choice this coaching cycle wasn’t either DDV or McCollum (it was McCasland and still would be but there was not enough interest by one or both parties)
