McCollum to Iowa

Iowa just hit a grand slam. I hope this doesent come back to bite IU in the a$$. I like the DeVries hire and believe he can be very good but i'm jealous of them landing McCollum.
I think he's going to do well at Iowa. He'll have time to make mistakes and learn from them that he wouldn't have here. They will be relevant again.

Yep. He will either stay at Iowa or be the next big thing at Wisconsin. I hate like hell he is going to Iowa. This sucks for IU and the rest of the league down the road.
Maybe DD will be better, would have rather hired Ben tho.

The WVU 3 guys podcast says they believe Indiana interviewed McCollum not once but twice. So he was on the radar, and we may never know who turned down who. Of course the same podcast guys call DeVries 'elite' and 'best coach I've ever seen' and tout that Indiana made an incredible hire. (And of several names they loved for WVU next, McCollum was one.)
We got our guy. Would I have been very happy with May, or McCollum. Or a couple others. Hell yeah.
Am I happy we got DeVries. Hell Yeah! He'll kick butt here. Other coaches could. But we got a pro.
Now it's in the work, with no way to predict who wins the most, yet. But we've got a great chance now.

According to this board, the next 5 will be split between Michigan and Iowa, no doubt.
Did not build that program? Irrelevant. IIRC, he had no returning players. He had some of his D2 players and filled in the rest.
AND he was 30-3 plus winning a tourney game. In no way shape or form did CDD have anything to do with Drake success this year.
McCollum won 4 national titles at D2. He had a 82% win %. He was something like 138-9 for one five year stretch.
He is a winner and will be a thorn in our sides for years!
Iowa fans are jealous of IU’s DeVries. McCollum was their plan B. The head to head match ups will be heavily anticipated, as they will be when we play Michigan, now both are secondary rivals as teams we really want to beat.
Great hire for Iowa. He’s shown his style doesn’t need the big NIL type recruits.
If he’s who you all think he is he’ll only be in Iowa a couple of years.
You do in a real conference. You’ll only get so far.
I’m guessing Iowa might be a better fit for BM. I don’t see him as the coach of a program as big as ours. And DD seemed to seek out a bigger job than WVU and when IU came calling he didn’t hesitate. I think DeVries always saw himself leading a top program, not sure McCollum ever did.
Fair enough, but I don’t get the impression that either were meant for a big coaching job and the spotlight. Just based on very limited viewing, I think Ben is the better coach.
Geez, some of you act as though he is the second coming! I'm sure he will do well at Iowa but he's not gonna dominate the league. Get a grip.
I guess we are going to find out who is the better former Drake coach. IU will have much more resources.

Talk about an upgrade. I'm suprised BM didn't go to a better program, but home is where the heart is. For people who say Dusty May wouldn't have come to IU last year, I'll enter BM as Exhibit A.

Same time as us. However, we don't have the excuse of having a roster of D-2 players.

We’ll shall see how DeVries handles it in the next year or two. I just get the feeling he’s going to acclimate well to the IU job. He’s a good coach and that support he’ll get from a top program will work well as long as he embraces it and doesn’t let the expectations get to him.
Basketball IQ and discipline are always in style: haven't seen that in Bloomington for awhile.

I don't think anyone is saying he'll win a natty, but Iowa hasn't made a S16 in this century. Lute Olsen is the last guy to win a conf title there, and he left to start coaching Arizona in the early 80s. McCollum is a great hire for them.
Yes, but this might be why he probably wasn’t a good fit at IU. As Mike DeCourcey likes to point out, the last team to win the ncaa championship without a first round NBA draft choice on their squad was IU in 1987. You need nba talent on your team to win it all.
