I don't think it is.Government is a business. Elon should know how to improve the customer service and how to make it easier for private sector to innovate. He needs to stick to that stuff.
I agree with your next two points.

Vox populi, vox Dei.Musk said he looked at Harris v. Trump, determined Trump would be better and so campaigned for him. That doesn't make him MAGA. I look at what he's trying to do now is influence Trump away from some of the more populist, anti-business sentiments in the MAGA movement and towards Musk's view of what a pro-biz regime should be.
Well, neither like excessive government intervention and control, for starters.
He makes sense.
The pakis we deal with all have ridiculous American names 🤣
Please don't tell me you think Republicans are going to throw grandma over the cliff. That old canard is played out.I think the former is a big fan of Medicare and SS and govt protection of jobs (tarrifs, anti free trade etc)..... The latter not so much
Yeah, it's only an issue for shit stirers. Although there is a lot wrong with the current H1B system.
Try giving programming directions to someone in India. It would be high comedy if it wasn't so frustrating.Nothing more fun than trying to solve a tech problem over the phone with someone who has a heavy Indian accent. It is a horrible customer service experience.
I retired from HP. In their Enterprise services, so didn't deal with hardware. But their software support wasn't any better.Damn, how I hated Hewlett-Packard’s “customer service.”
“I don’t want to see a single piece of equipment in here from hp. I will pick it up and toss it in the dumpster.”
Still pisses me off if I see anything from those awful POSs if I’m in a business or store.
Theyy are, but I don't think most people view it as such. To them, it's protecting domestic jobs.I think you’re wrong on the government intervention thing. Tariffs and industrial policy (both Trump hallmarks) are government intervention.
I will opine more tomorrow. My view is that there is a significant fifth column in this country. Dozens of members of Congress are dual nationals. How many citizenships does Musk have? He shouldn't be anywhere near the US govt until he renounces his other nationalities. There are some governments that do not allow for this. In those few examples ok. When will the denaturalization proceedings start for his working illegally while on a student visa?
No I just got back from Bolivia. I'm not a Libertarian. I want a tough on crime agenda. The first step act was a disaster.Living at John mcafee’s compound
Don’t think I ever spoke to an American. I went on some classic tirades, enjoyed immensely by employees unfortunate enough to be within a mile or so.I retired from HP. In their Enterprise services, so didn't deal with hardware. But their software support wasn't any better.
I got so bad on the phone with those guys - I worked from home and my 8 year old daughter wold come home from school and play in the basement, where I worked. I realized how bad I was when she repeated my conversations to her mother.Don’t think I ever spoke to an American. I went on some classic tirades, enjoyed immensely by employees unfortunate enough to be within a mile or so.

I think Trump voters are largely correct in recognizing that the country has been completely sold out. The problem is that the folks they are voting for are a large part of the problem. Sadly, there are no good alternatives at the moment. Trump who knowingly employed illegals to make his bedsheets is going to solve illegal immigration? He had Congress for 2 years and got 40 miles of wall built. He put forward the correct H1B rule to require wages to prove demand but waited until the 11th hour so the clock died. He did nothing on OPT in 4 years. He did nothing on birthright citizenship in term 1. Instead he punished American citizens while rewarding foreign students and woke institutions.
The alternative party is infatuated with social issues that may impact .01% of the population while the rest of us deal with inflation shit sandwiches and crime gone wild. Delusions of lunacy. They think that to help the world you must import the problems here. No, we get out own shit in order.
Personally, you want low wage workers to keep inflation down and keep the higher paying jobs for your own people. I prefer something like what the Emirates has. Come here and farm and work the low wage jobs and they are happy with the pay relative to their countries with no pathway to residency.
We will need DEI soon for Americans at this rate. Dozens of lawsuits on the caste system in corporate America. This is a pure MIGA administration. Israel and India. An Israeli Hawkish cabinet. And individuals like Kash Patel who are open about their pro-India ideology. FYI, musk can't even sell his vehicles in India.
For illegal immigration software already exists. Change the damn laws and put people behind bars. Any executive whose company hires an illegal 5 years straight in the pony. Do not pass go. Setup gulags. That will be solved in all of 2 minutes. Both parties love illegal immigration. And close the f-ing Darien gap. Get rid of the bogus asylum claims. First safe country! In what sane world can a Hindu claim religious persecution in India and travel through 25 countries to make that claim here?
H1B you can see salary database... 2-3 times less than American coworkers. The other fraud is OPT. Trump can end on day 1 with one swipe of the pen. He won't. OPT no social security and Medicare tax! Employers love it! Work those students like dogs for peanuts.
This country is rotting to the core and going to shit. I'm relatively young but I still can't believe that SVB bailout when Cuban, Sacks, Thiel, etc were threatening a national bank run if they didn't get bailouts. The billionaire bank heist. Everyone knew the 250k rule. In any normal country the President would have declared martial law and arrested them for sedition. The crypto ponzi is another whopper. Legalize and institutionalize ponzi schemes. What a sad state of affairs. Any official who speaks against or attempts to weaken the USD belongs behind bars. I want a Singapore tough on crime model and root out corruption. Pay congressional members $1m per year if you must.
DumbThe wheels will really come off when Trump lashes out at Musk because he’s tired of hearing all the comments about Musk being the defacto president.
That is 100% coming.
Please don't tell me you think Republicans are going to throw grandma over the cliff. That old canard is played out.
Because Trump loves the constitution. Bet you get no tax cut, but you know we all don’t take calculusTrump already reminded everyone that Elon isn't eligible.
Drug mule?No I just got back from Bolivia. I'm not a Libertarian. I want a tough on crime agenda. The first step act was a disaster.
Dumb
You are thinking exactly like a democrat that prays for failure so the status quo is maintained. The working class (to hell with your white word!) are very well understood about inefficiency as well as how the (possibly) very well intended, lets say planned, inefficiency in the swamp kills them. Maga will help Working class just as it did 16'-20'. But this time it very well may be on a force multiplier due to experience.
I envision those who prefer to have Swamp ass rouge on their nose, are not going to be happy for the next 4-8+ years. You all screwed us for the last time. ... I hope.

Also I don't for a second buy into the argument that this is all about the very best and brightest engineering minds in the world. That would amount to a very small % of the H1B visas. The reality is tech companies want people that will work basically non-stop for less cost than domestic hires.
The tech industry has laid off hundreds of thousands of people over the last 2-3 years in cost cutting measures.
Offshoring and visas are not the same thing. Much of the service functions performed offshore are first on the list to be replaced by AI in the short term anyway.
The Tech bros are correct in that we need to do everything possible to collect and keep top talent. But as has been pointed out in this thread, that’s not who the vast majority of H1B’s go to. To the extent Americans are being replaced by top flight engineers on visas from abroad, I really have a hard time believing it’s simply a cost cutting measure. It seems to me that MAGA is looking for their own form of affirmative action, which is something Vivek warned about even preceding the election.
Where we might find agreement is that offshore developers largely suck and aren’t worth the cost savings. My companies developers and programmers are largely offshore and I think it hurts us. For crying out loud we’re based in Atlanta. Go down to Georgia Tech and drop major pay packages to a few dozen of their best engineers every class and the ROI would far surpass what we see now.
Unfortunately, the goal is to make money for most people in government.Ok… I stand corrected. I was wrong.
I was looking at it in regards to hiring employees and awarding contracts. I consider those business practices. But I see where I’m wrong since the goal isn’t to make money.
Government isn’t a business, I agree.I don't think it is.
I agree with your next two points.

…signals are crossed.
They don't need to look anywhere. It's all in the IG reports. Implementation is lacking. Much to blame Congress for. This is correct.
And the business world is where it should look for ideas to improve. Businesses have to be responsive to customers. Businesses have to be financially responsible. Businesses have to hire and fire people (and be able to do so with relative ease).
You are right, government isn’t a business and never will be. But we shouldn’t take that observation any farther than that. Government is an organization. What customers are to businesses, citizens are to government. And the similarities don’t end there.
Where did yoiu get that idea? You can’t be talking about federal workers. Their pay scale is online.Unfortunately, the goal is to make money for most people in government.
Maybe best trip of my life. Lima, Machu P, Cusco, la Paz, 3 day/2 night tour of salar d uyuni. Cross into Chile flight down to Santiago and direct flight back on American. Had never been South of US border before except Bahamas on cruise.Drug mule?
