Totally agree. Between the mid-season disaster and the swing and misses on recruits, I'm really second guessing Archie being the guy. He's seriously looking at three straight years with no dance.
And that would be four straight for iu. That would have to be a new record and new low point at Indiana

LOL we have 10 healthy scholorship players on the roster. I guess these guys are finding much more playing team at Memphis, North Carolina, and Kentucky. Certainly this was a good thing!
Our talent isn’t at the level of Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc., but we have some depth. Crean would have panicked and offered Grant Gelon and Tim Priller by now.

Guards:
Green (starter)
Phinisee (4 star backup)
Durham (starter)
Franklin
Smith (starter)
Hunter (4 star backup)
Anderson (4 star backup)

Post:
TJD (starter)
Thompson (4 star backup)
Davis (starter)
Brunk (4 star backup)

It’s average talent, zero shooting, lack of length on the wing, and weak guard play

Phin will start every game

I don't think Davis is a mystery. He can give IU 10ppg if he is healthy, and be a great passer out of the block.

The potential scoring that could come from hunter would be similar to what IU got in 2008 with Jordan Crawford in terms of unexpected contributions.

Look at the 2007 team as a possible similarilty to this upcoming season though. That team had a couple seniors but had to rely on defense to win games. This 2019 2020 team certainly does not have a dj white/eric gordon combo (which the 08 team had to go with crawford and bassett).
You're an optimist at least

I think IUs roster is middle of the pack BIG finisher. 17-22 win range. Likely to miss tournament if they have tough early season schedule. No shooting or solid, dependable wing play. Who knows about Hunter and his health. Guards will be decent but turnover prone

If Smith, Davis, Durham and Green are all year starters, Heaven help us. We’ve seen it. It doesn’t work.

Has a team ever averaged less than 30 points per game in the shot clock era?

Cmon - they are another year deep into understanding Archie’s system!
Elite 8 like Dayton bound!

Hopefully hold the other team to 29. Scoring will be tough, but there is no reason not to expect improved overall guard play.

IU desperately needs a Calbert Cheaney type that can shoot and be a leader. I hope Hunter can be that but there are too many ifs about his physical problems.I have never known IU not to have a decent guard.Maybe the year Robert Johnson was a senior was a let down. Hopefully Phinesee will make great strides during off-season.AJ Durham is another who might improve. Still IU has no lights out shooter. No Eric Gordon,AJ or Alford type. Achilles heel of team.I kinda worried about CAM putting eggs in one basket with Brooks and not developing relationships with 2019 guards. The only one he was close on was guy that went to Texas Tech. Hopefully he will learn from this mistake in 2020-2021 recruiting.

If people cannot see the talent in Phinisee as a point guard then I would have to think their ability to evaluate basketball talent is poor. I say this because what I see in him is a very very good point guard who will hold that starting position for the next 3 years. He will be a big part of Indiana's success if we are gonna have any in the next few years.

Like many of you, I have been unimpressed with the overall coaching of CAM. I have been impressed with the improvement in defense and toughness. Beating MSU twice this year was an example of IU punching back, because we generally get beat up by MSU.

I am cautiously optimistic about this years team because I expect our players shooting to be much improved. I improved dramatically as a player over the summer when I put the work in so I have seen vast improvement in my game and I believe our guards will improve as well.

So Davis is a very good low post player. Green improved A LOT last year including being more consistent. Smith also became more consistent and is a strong rebounder and good defender. Durham is a bench player unless he gets a lot better and hits his shot. Disagree on 3 of those. If TJD transitions well, Hunter is healthy and contributes solid minutes, and Franklin is solid off the bench, this could be a good team.

Would love to see us pickup another really good player or two, but we have a solid base right now. The first half of season is going to be a little tough without Morgan, but I’m much less worried about losing RL. Key to good season is Davis and TJD starting season healthy and playing well. They have to make up at least 80% of Morgan’s absence early season or it will be a struggle.
