LQ commits to Memphis

After performance last year and recruiting this spring Archie is in a free fall. This staff has been a huge huge disappointment.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Are you going to sell t-shirts again?

Ease up dude - cant really tell anything about a coach til year 6 or 7...let him build a system...

6 or 7 may be a little too much. But seriously, he's had one full recruiting class of his guys and people are ready to send him packing(and he did improve the teams' record by 3 games without 'his guys'). It's an insanely stupid line of thinking. Having high expectations is fine, but we're not Duke/UNC/Kentucky - we aren't going to have bag men landing us 3-4 5 star kids to instantly turn around the program. Takes time, deal with it.

I'll just sit back and see what happens. Hopefully IU is at least competitive this upcoming year in the BIG. It all depends on Green and Smith. Those are the Hoosiers best scoring options and leaders. Davis and Hunter are mysteries.

Recruits aren’t stupid. IU looked like a train wreck for half the season and it’s catching up to them now.
Recruits are evaluating our roster and not finding a place that they can get starting positions right away. That is a good thing.

I'm probably in the minority with this thought but I'm not totally disappointed. I know all recruits want to get to the league but that's all LQ talked about. It was sort of annoying to only hear about who was going to prepare him for the league. He assumed coaches who played in the league could automatically coach too.

I thought we would see major chances this spring.;shooters being brought in, possible assistant coaching changes, etc. Instead it ws a big fat dud. I guess the good thing is we will not have unerealistic expectations for this team next year. The NCAA would seem to be a stretch unless the three point shooting improves dramatically.

Recruiting hasn’t taken off like I Thought it would
I thought recruiting was going to be Archie's strong suit but he does not appear to be able to close the deal anymore. It alot easier when he got Hutner and all them cause he had not coached a season here yet. Now he has two seasons for recruits to evalusate and clearly they do not seem impressed.

LOL we have 10 healthy scholorship players on the roster. I guess these guys are finding much more playing team at Memphis, North Carolina, and Kentucky. Certainly this was a good thing!

Memphis's recruiting class is stacked. Our only hope with that LQ was potentially looking for more playing time

Indiana may have dodged a bullet when LQ decided to go to Memphis. He seemed to be a “me-first” type player, IMHO. IU has had enough bad chemistry for many seasons last year. It’s time to develop better team mates, and better chemistry with the current players. LQ would have been a distraction.

On the other hand, the loss of Morton was a bigger deal. He is a good kid and a good player. From what I know, Lil Archie was all in on him. However, if Phiny stays through his senior year, the loss won’t be that impactful. Remember, this is a 2020 kid, so there is plenty of time to adjust and recruit to fill the PG hole.

I posted it before, but it bears repeating. If you try to follow college recruiting kid-by-kid, it will break your heart. I say just root for the kids that want to come to your school and forget the rest.

So with another recruiting miss and likely no more additions to roster, is this IU team a solid 20 + win NCAA team???

I don't think Davis is a mystery. He can give IU 10ppg if he is healthy, and be a great passer out of the block.

The potential scoring that could come from hunter would be similar to what IU got in 2008 with Jordan Crawford in terms of unexpected contributions.

Look at the 2007 team as a possible similarilty to this upcoming season though. That team had a couple seniors but had to rely on defense to win games. This 2019 2020 team certainly does not have a dj white/eric gordon combo (which the 08 team had to go with crawford and bassett).

No. We lost our two best scorers and did not improve the outside shooting at all. I would say about 7-10th in the big team seems about right.

There was a quote suggesting this Quinones kid simply wanted a coach to get him to the NBA as soon as possible. I consider that a disqualifying statement.

Good thing though is over half the conference could take a step back as well.

Illinois - with Ayo back they have a roster that should be good but you never know with Illinois. Should be better than last year.

Indiana - as of now being unbiased I just dont see how next years team is better than this previous years team. Maybe the players back from injuries will show how special last year could have been but I don't see the ceiling being as high.

Iowa - I thought they could've challenged for a top 4 spot but I didn't see cook and Moss leaving when I thought that. Without those two they will be middle of the pack again.

Maryland - depends on Cowan. If he's back then they take a step forward but if he goes pro then they take a step back.

Michigan - they lose a ton of scoring but Teske and Sinpson are great defenders. They have a good class coming in and very good players who were buried on the bench as well. They might start slow but Beilein will have them rolling like he usually does

Michigan st - they'll be loaded again. I think Tillman is better than Ward and the conference POY is back. Top 5 team in nation and I hate to say that

Minnesota - they have zero depth that I'm aware of and if Coffey isn't taking over then they will have long streaks going scoreless.

Nebraska - worst team in the conference

Northwestern - only better than Nebraska so I guess it's a step up from last place.

Ohio st - most improved team in the conference IMO. Wouldn't shock me to see them in the top 4 of the conference throughout the year.

Penn st - I always think they're going to breakthrough but then something happens. Looks like it already did with bolten transferring. Maybe an NIT team at best so step up overall but a step down from how they were playing at the end of the year.

Purdue - You can't replace what Carsen did and since he had an impact on almost every possession it's hard to imagine how this team will be. To start, It'll be very tough defensively and has a very good frontcourt to work with. It'll be a step back but this is still a solid team.

Rutgers - they could be an ok team next year. Doubt they get in any tournament but they will be better than last years group who already wasn't the embarrassment that Rutgers usually is.

Wisconsin - I think they take a big step back. Happ is a bigger loss for them than Carsen is for Purdue. I don't see them lower than 10th in conference but I don't see them much higher either.

So...

Step back

Indiana
Iowa
Michigan (small)
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern (as far as talent)
Purdue
Wisconsin

Step forward

Illinois
MSU
OSU
Rutgers

Don't know yet

Maryland
Penn st

I think at least 7 teams make the tourney next year but could be more.

The excuses for subpar performance continue. All I heard was wait until Archie gets his players. Give him time. I like the three coming in but they are not enough to get us back to the top of the Big Ten. Where are the shooters?

You said outside shooting didn’t improve. I thought Hunter is an outside shooter?
We don't even know if he will be healthy enough to play yet. Plus he just missed a whole year of action. Until there is some certainty he will play i am not penciling him in as a 10 plus point guy.

Totally agree. Between the mid-season disaster and the swing and misses on recruits, I'm really second guessing Archie being the guy. He's seriously looking at three straight years with no dance.
