Looks like Brownell?……

Hope for better results than what Painter has accomplished at Purdue?? I'm not going to go back and look up how many conference C-ships he's won in the past 10 years, or how many top 10 teams he's beaten in the past 10 years, but how many coaches are out there that we can expect those results from? Hell I would LOVE to have a Donovan, Few or Stevens, but that isn't likely to happen and it's gonna take a name like that to get "better than Painter-like results".
Yeah, you're right.

Pretty strong. I'd take it!

I don't believe Brownell would be that.

Brownell is not in the same ballpark as Painter or Gard. Brownell is a safe mediocre hire, nothing more nothing less. He will have IU wading in the middle of the Big 10 for years.

McDermott is a nice coach not sure his style or his charisma would do well at IU. Creighton seem like the ideal place for him.
Nobody wants cronin but we may end up with bronwell. I would take cronin any day of the week or bronwell.

Brownell rumored to have a high buyout. Anyone know the exact number? Rumored though that Clemson would let him out for much less (always a great sign, right?).

I am sure they would love to push Brownell out and go hire Will Wade who graduated from Clemson. I don't think Dolson is dumb enough to fall for that. IU should just hire Wade if that is the case.

Psst...

Dolson hasn't mentioned a single name. He hasn't said McCollum is the leading candidate. He hasn't said Brownell is a real possibility. He hasn't said Beard is out. And so on.

ALL of this comes from Goodman. Here's a task for you: Go look at his past tweets to see how "in the know" he is.

Actually, I'll save you the trouble. Here's a sample, courtesy of @surjay...

Thanks for posting this. Goodman is a tool.

Quoting IU Scott, February 8, 2017, on this same board:
"If we had to take Brownell then I would rather keep Crean"

Amazing how 8 mediocre years later that quote is still relevant. Too bad IU Scott doesn't post anymore. Maybe he figured out there are other things to do in life than watch crappy basketball.

Hiring Brownell or McCollum is equivalent to waving a white flag.
Hiring Brownell is. McCollum is a home run. You over value this job. Coaches aren't lining up for this job. IU has been irrelevant for the last quarter century. They have a horrible arena and are hooked to Addidas.

They'd be way ahead if they had kept Crean.

Watching Clemson and the great Brownell right now. They are sloppy and a trainwreck.
That guy is not a good coach. His teams are undisciplined. The only reason they are good in the ACC is because it is so bad.
What you mean 34 points in 28 minutes is not good? What about the 57 point outburst from last night? Obviously DWS.

IU deserves him we love mediocrity

Get ready for four more years of the same sh@t if true. Why do we want a second rate ACC coach? I guess he figures the fans are already pissed off so nothing to lose. I'd rather take a chance on another Archie type. He blew it missing on May, they just blew out Purdue.

Many would rather do this every four years and be pure than win and hire someone with a shady past like most winners have

Negative. Recruiting had flat out dried up. Grant Gelon, Tim Priller, Jeremiah April, etc. There was no scarier premise than Tom Crean roaming the landscape in the Spring with available scholarships in tow. He was grasping at straws to fill out the roster.
Not to mention he had totally lost the fan base. His son got booed at a high school b-ball game??? When he was playing?? His daughter found out that her dad lost his job while sitting in class b/c the professor announced it (have that on good authority). The Syracuse zone buried Crean. Yogi strung it along another year or two by being Yogi.

Crean was a complete disaster at Georgia and his successor has steadily rebuilt the program. Crean was less of a coach and more of a snake oil salesman with very odd habits.

What I know about Tom Crean is that he is a pretty good guy, at least he was to my brother when had no reason to be. He (and his family) didn't deserve to be treated the way they were. He took on a monumental task and got us some pretty good moments, but his teams didn't play Indiana quality basketball very often.

Good guy by most everyone’s accounts. His confidence just didn’t match his in game strategy or his belief he was always just one recruit away. When they were really skilled and playing at a really fast pace, it helped hide his lack of in game strategy.

Going back to Chris Beard (I know I mention his too much) is the exact opposite. He sees things immediately and is constantly putting his teams in advantageous positions.

It wasn't a pretty ending, but how about giving the guy credit for extinguishing the Dumpster fire Sampson created ... and bringing IU back to national relevance.

Get over the Syracuse game already.

You really think in retrospect that CTC would have done worse than Archie and Woodson over the last 8 years?

Remember - at the end, Crean was loathed by IN high school coaches and lied to Roth, etc.

Yogi and his mom love him, but that is about the only ones.

And Troy Williams' mom.

Well, as I stated in my original post, his recruiting had dried up. Kids just didn’t want to come play for him and he was desperate, as evidence by the kids I mentioned. So it was trending in a bad direction. Archie and Woodson didn’t end up faring very well, but you had to try something different. Crean’s issues were all self created.

Like when he benched Zeller for the last possession v Butler?

He put his McD AA 1st Teamer on the bench for the biggest play of the game.

Fun walk back to the car, that was. So glad it was a 4 team deal and the Boiler fans were there to share the moment.

I would take McDermott over Brownell I just can’t see McDermott wanting the job? I could be wrong
yes, McDermott has been good at Creighton for a long time. He struggled at Iowa State though.
Good coach though, no doubt
