I'm not at all worried about BB being the guy. Scott has a functioning brain.
That's exactly how a coach should respond, whether he's a candidate or not. Means nothing.

Otherwords-- Only way BB is next IU coach is if 17 others said 'no'.
Sounds like IU. Hiring a guy that hasn't won anything in 20 years and should have been fired two years ago.
IU should disband the program and put the money into football if Brownell is the best they can hire.
Not sure anything can be construed from that tweet? How does Dakich arrive at the conclusion after reading that it means “Welp…sounds like he is heading to IU.”
A reporter asks him about the IU job and he tells them he’s not talking about jobs and has a job and loves it. Not seeing how this connects any dots?

Dakich is probably not wrong about one thing - Brownell would 100% take the job! But if you applied that logic to all the names tossed about we would have a half doxen new coaches.
I joked from day one this is the guy they would hire. I hope I am wrong but its such an iu move.
Dusty is mistaken if he believes that going on the Dakich show is a way into the hearts of IU and IU fans.
BB is not in my top 3 but I suspect he could do well with the resources IU offers.
IU is not gonna hire this dude. DD is an ambulance chaser. He knew what he was doing ..He knows damn good and well, IU is not hiring Brownell. I'd bet the farm there's been absolutely ZERO contact with him, from IU.
I, also, do not understand all the Brownell hate around here. Is He the "big splash" hire that most of us dream about (the OTHER Brad, Pitino, Billy Donovan)? No he is not, but watch Clemson basketball the past two years and ask yourself if you would like to see IU playing ball like that. I know I would. I put him on the same tier as McDermott, Cronin, Shaka Smart, Chris Collins.....guys who have D1 experience and would surely do OK here at IU. As in "Gard Ok" or "Painter OK". Mabye not "Bill Self OK"
Brownell played with Cheaney at Evansville? Maybe they have a good relationship and CC would remain on staff? Guy knows how important basketball is in the state.

I should have said I prefer a other guys. Not 'had better not be' . I won't be too dismayed. He's a quality coach.
I'm truly enjoying already seeing a couple Clemson sites saying how he would be dumb to take the job.

If most on here dream of Pitino being coach at IU, I might need to find a new forum. I think I read that Wade is not interested in NC State. I'll be disappointed if it's either of those meh program retreads.
So what you are saying is he is extremely average, sounds just like the guy IU should hire. Clemson has performed well this year, might be helpful they play in a conference that is absolutely terrible.
That being said I don't believe it will be Brownell, if it is it will most definitely not move the needle or excite the fan base which is a problem.
I most definitely would be disappointed in a Wade hire. All I'm saying about Pitino is it would make a big splash. Would make a lot of waves. Basketball wise, he is a dream hire on the same level as a Stevens or Donovan. Basketball wise.
That is how I interpreted your statement. You compared him to what I believe to be average basketball coaches. If IU is in the business of being "ok" then hire Brownell. Big money being spent can't happen yearly, so when you have a chance to make a splash you do a cannon ball off the diving board you don't just off the edge. Hiring Brownell is jumping off the edge of the pool.
I compared "predicted results" to a Greg Gard at Wisconsin or Matt Painter at Purdue. I really wouldn't classify what both of those coaches have accomplished as "average". I think Clemson has passed the "eye test" at least the past two years. Not sure what he was doing before that.
I also think McDermott could find above average success here extrapolating what he has done at Creighton, into an IU setting with good NIL and homegrown ballplayers wanting to play for the state school.
I would love to have the cannon ball off of the diving board but not sure that is going to be in the cards this time around. Hopefully we will be surprised
Seems like a 'high floor, low ceiling' kind of guy.
0 regular season ACC championships, 0 appearances in the ACC tourney final game since he's been there. Before you say "Yes, but UNC, Duke, Virginia..." in the same time frame FSU has 3 appearances, GT 2, with one each for Miami, ND, and VT. .5.....33 win% in ACC play.
Good to very good results at UCC Wilmington & Wright State before Clemson. Very mediocre results in his first 11 years at Clemson. 4 NCAAs in 12 years.
Admittedly, very good results the last two years.....50-17 (.746) & 29-11 (.725)......Do you overlook the first 18 years in favor of the last two??
What is the explanation for the new success? NIL?? Or because of the specific mix with his current players?? Personal growth?? I don't follow them so I have no clue. But on the face of it, he looks like a Clemson, FSU, ND, Oregon, USC level hire until you convince Dull Son otherwise.
I'd definitely talk to Brownell, especially if you strike out out on the top level guys. I've said it before, but folks don't appreciate how hard it is to win in bball at Clemson. It's a relatively small school; it's not Bama, Texas, FL or TN. They are 1000% football. Basketball ranks behind Football, Spring Football and baseball in popularity and not far ahead of soccer. If they have an extra dollar in athletic budget, 95% of it goes to football. As I mentioned, Pete Maravich's Dad was the head coach at Clemson and left to be the assistant and heir apparent to Everette Case at NC St. Think about that. And, not that much has changed. If I likened them to a B10 school it would be MN or PSU, but with 1/3 the enrollment. I'm not saying a great coach couldn't have done more, but I'm saying he's done well there to have the success he's had. With the resources at IU, his arc is 100X higher. Everyone thinks Collins is a good coach and I'd guess his results are similar and actually has similar (or greater) handicaps.
I think that would be the crux of his interview, if he were to get one. I'm sure Dolson would want to know why it took him so long to find the level of success he has experienced the past couple of years. I'm not rah-rahing for Brownell here, I think he would do better than most expect as would the other group of guys I lumped him in with.
I look at Danny Hurley......I remember when UConn hired him and I thought, "Big deal, what's he done, he's not going to do anything there." The right combination of coach, school, AD, boosters can have tremendous results that are hard to predict. I could see Shaka Smart, Brownell, McDermott, Chris Collins, Mick Cronin and maybe a couple of others having that same sort of "rebirth" at IU.

I stand by my prediction that no credible 'leaks' until our season is over. SD is smart enough not to play his card until this current team is done. It's just the respectful thing to do for the players on this current squad.

They've been chasing bigfoot for weeks and almost blew up their board this week, based on rumors likely from trolls who just love getting the boards worked into a frenzy over completely unsubstantiated info. I said this to a friend, but I don't know why Shaka Smart hasn't generated more interest. I know he didn't crush it at UT, but he did at VCU and seems to be again at Marquette. I like how his teams play, young and I think has a doable buyout and salary. I'd think he'd have major interest in the job too and I rarely see his name mentioned.
It could just be a coincidence, but Brownell's best years have come when NIL was introduced.
