Lomeli Joins IU Men's Soccer Program
Goalkeeper Christain Lomeli comes to IU from IUPUI.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University head men's soccer coach Todd Yeagley announced today that goalkeeper Christian Lomeli is joining the program for the 2015 season.

Lomeli comes to Indiana from IUPUI and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining beginning this fall.

"We are very excited to have Christian join us at IU," Yeagley said. "He had an outstanding youth career with the Chicago Fire and has helped IUPUI in goal these past two seasons. Next fall we are lose a very good goalkeeper, Michael Soderlund, to injury. We are excited to bring in a goalkeeper with Christian's ability and college experience to ensure we stay strong in our goalkeeper position moving forward."

Lomeli spent the last two seasons at IUPUI where he appeared in 12 matches, making eight career starts. As a freshman he played 355 minutes in goal in five appearances, tallying 17 saves.

This past season Lomeli made seven appearances on the pitch with five starts. In 450:15 minutes he posted a 1.80 GAA with 19 saves and one shutout.

In his prep career Lomeli was a Class 2A IHSAA state champion in 2011 at Crown Point High School before moving to Lake Forest, Illinois and finishing his career at Lake Forest Academy. While in Illinois he was the goalkeeper for the Chicago Fire Academy U-18 squad.

"Our returning starter, Colin Webb had an excellent 2014 campaign and we expect our three new goalkeepers (Lomeli, Sean Caulfield and Cody Jewett) to compete extremely hard to ensure we are very good in goal next fall," Yeagley said.

Interesting move by the Hoosiers, Lomeli is good goalie so they seem to be stock piling keepers.
