...and it was a game IU won! Last year (BGSU, PSU), in 2013 (Minn, Navy, U of M) and in 2012 (BSU, Navy) we lost games quite similar to this. This year WE WON! This is a positive step! To make it even more positive, we won it without four or five key defensive players and with essentially all new offensive skill personnel. Our backs were against the wall and this team kept scratching, clawing and fighting and ultimately won the game.

Don't forget how hard this team played the last six and a half games last season even though they had a serious and obvious disadvantage. This team has displayed a lot of guts, heart and courage and they deserve our respect.

No one finds it acceptable to give up the yardage and points they did Saturday. But, as we all know, all that matters are W's, and IU gave us a W. Strap in, it will be a fun, wild ride this year en route to a bowl game.

There's plenty of reason to criticize and be upset, but the barrage of 1-11 posts are tiresome.

Got to remember, we had never beaten SIU (we were 0-1 going into this one) :) My way of saying folks should relax, we are one game (a win) into the season. Yes, there were concerns on defense that continue to bother me but let's wait until three or four games are complete and if we still look the same on defense, then put on your Adidas, start running and letting folks know the sky is falling.

Sure it's one game. We all get that. But if you think Saturday's problems were only caused by a few missing players and we are gonna be fine the rest of the way, then you have screw loose. You can't sugar coat a 1 point win over a barely .500 FCS program. Yet several on this board have tried. If the coaches say the total performance was an F-, why are posters trying to say it wasn't and everything will be fine? That's like saying hey a tornado just destroyed my house and killed my family, but at least my dog survived! I admire folks trying to find silver linings, but sometimes you have to call it like it was.......a real stinker!

And yeah the offense scored points but they were far from the "A" rating several are stating.

The bottom line is we need to get better on both sides of the ball quickly.

I think what many feel is the criticism is over the top because...
1. 1-0 is better than 0-1. Think PSU is happy? I swear reading/watching media you would think we lost.
2. Citing last years records of opponents is about as effective as predicting next years.
3. Why be so negative so quickly when only 8% into season. Best team hasn't even taken the field yet.
4. Head to Btown, enjoy the day/game.

I agree. Last year after the Hoosiers lost to BGU, and he D played poorly(IU gave up 45 points), some fans were ready to throw in the towel. Next week the D played lights out against Mizzou, two time SEC East champs. Bringing home the big win. It is a long season, the D has some young players, and now is the time to develop them, not week 9.

I say NOT!

Honestly, that game took some wind from my sails. I know it is only one game, yada, yada....but I expected a much better effort.

Defensively, what I did see me disturbed me. Slow on top of Slow. Big plays allowed, the kind of let downs you don't even see in junior high ball. Very poor CB play from 3rd year players. A veteran DL that was handled pretty easily by an FCS team.

Offensively, we are better than I expected. Love the RB 1-2 punch. Sudfeld and Jones were terrific. That OL was impressive. Paige and Cobb will be nice weapons. The TEs were involved.

What is with a blocked punt? That should never happen on a clean snap.

Let's hope game 1 was an anomaly. We can blame it on the suspensions, youth, and a good SIU offense. We will have a better read after game 2.

The bar is awfully low when everybody should just "be happy" because Indiana beat a FCS opponent. When the national media is talking about Ohio State having a cupcake schedule, who do you think they are talking about? Let's raise the bar a little bit.
