Let's have a reasonable conversation about Mick Cronin

Why? To me looking presentable has always been part of any professional job, whether it's a sweater or suit. I absolutely hate the sweatsuit/hoodie thing and especially in college where you are always trying to influence kids, parents, coaches, etc... I think looking presentable with whatever you determine is acceptable/expected wardrobe and appearance is not hard to do. If I have an employee who isn't meeting a standard, I talk to them and I think any AD should communicate that if they have an expectation. Having said that, I've never noticed Cronin looking crappy. Easy to control. Much fairer to critique than height for instance.

I only know his suit for IU looked strange....tie too fat or something. But nothing like Archie used to look. I 100% agree that its something you'd expect an AD to mention if it was a continuing bad look. That's one of many reasons, the biggest being not holding Woodson's feet to the fire, that I don't trust Dull Son.

I'm learning that nearly every FF appearance is somehow a fluke. Unless, of course, they've been several times, which is fair, but NONE OF THOSE GUYS ARE COMING HERE. Hell, barely any of them are even still coaching now.

When a 12 seed makes a run to the FF, it's a fluke. VCU barely made the tourney. Yet Smart has built an entire career on that 4 game run.

And exactly how was he supposed to hold "Woodson's feet to the fire"?

If rumors were true, SD would have fired him last year. You know, he has bosses too.

PS. - Calling him Dull Son, is childish at best. Guess that is holding your feet to the fire.

Why? Outside a fluke FF trip as a 12 seed fourteen years ago, what is appealing about Smart? He was terrible at Texas and has a single S16 in the 14 years since that VCU run. He's the poster child for Tom Crean II. I honestly don't understand why that guy's name keeps coming up.
He's won A10 title...Big East title..B12 title. And won regular season BE title.
Winner of almost 70% his games

Awful at TX? He had one bad year. Went to 3 NCAAT in 6 years...and would have been 4 if not for COVID. Won the NIT.

AND NOW...? Welp, winning again Marquette.

Do me a favor--Go compare Smarts resume to Beards. Let me know what ya thjnk.

With the buyouts of Archie and Allen and the hiring of Cignetti I trust Dolson to find us the right man.

Smart can coach. Winner.

Wanna talk flukes, etc..Maybe BS back to back title games were as well? A catch lightning in a bottle scenario wirh the talent he had. I mean before rhat? Lost in 2md round.
After that? CBI and another 2md round loss.

the 2nd run; they had some unbelievable breaks go their way. he probably left when the timing was perfect. would he have become an all-time great college coach, who knows. just as good of a chance his career would have been like Mattas or Holtmann's

He'd have been fired from UT had he not managed to snag the Marquette gig. Three 1st round exits. two missed tourneys. I don't think that's what Texas had in mind when they hired him.

And I've never once lobbied for Chris Beard.

It appears as if he's maintained an absolute "hands off" distance between himself and Woodson. Head in the sand. He is still the boss. I do not consider that leadership.

I can't understand why everyone is so dense as to not understand that skipping these media things is clearly part of the 'negotiation' that took place when Woodson 'decided to retire'. And if in any way Woodson feels like Fischer has been stabbing him in the back or not defending him when he does his weekly radio show guest appearances, then he would have said 'if you're firing me then I'm not talking to that MFer any more'.

Painter and Izzo are out then. But I agree that the track suit/hoodie look is not a good one. Wear a damn suit, look the part of a leader.

Agree, he was either told or allowed to skip some of his normal press obligations. He's gone, who cares at this point. What does he have to say that will make any difference or even be interesting?

It's pathetic not to be able to dress yourself appropriately, especially when your are making several million dollars a year. You don't want to look like a goofball to prospective recruits and their parents, or to your own fans.
Really! What was wrong with his suit. I know you’re so pathetic that instead of watching the game you pay attention to a man’s clothes. Idiot!

Since rumors are that Woodson was basically untouchable until this season and that SD wanted to fire him, I would say that does not mean that SD has his head in the sand. I mean hell, Woodson even said that he would be here as long as he wanted. Does that sound like he was worried about what SD did or said?

You really didn't answer my question.
Knowing what facts we know, how would you as AD, held Woodson's feet to the fire?

I, as AD, would have fired his ass the moment he said "true fans" on Senior Night.
