OK, I'm ready to play NOW... But I'm not. I'm grateful too....
OK, from my perspective one of the big keys for tomorrow involves the corners... (How's THAT for insight?)
But not only because of their youth and inexperience. A huge key will be their ability to maintain POSITION and LEVERAGE on the perimeter. I look for a lot of sideline / bubble action by WKU. It is important that the corner on that side maintain OUTSIDE position on his blocker and force the receiver back inside and into pursuit. If they try to slip inside the block and give up the sideline, it's a much longer gain.
Secondly, the safeties initial move must be a retreat step on the snap. Unless they are in support on the defensive call, they have to make sure they are protecting the end zone first. You can always come UP to support. It's harder to turn and run or backpedal when you are moving forward initially.
A couple of times in the last two games, long plays were made because of lousy tackling technique by a freshman. Instead of approaching the ball carrier and putting your head on the sideline shoulder, it was reversed and the arm tackle was broken. Break down, get under control, and get your body in the right position. WRAP UP!! Don't just hit.
I hope someone emerges to take pressure off Jones and Howard offensively.
Oh.. Let's just kick it off already.
