Know Your Opponent (Fl Int)

One of our resident trolls would have you believe that FIU is short on talent and that we should expect to roll over them with little or no resistance... This guy might beg to differ:

Check out the offer list...

If I'm reading that right he was there for their Spring Training.

Here's another Juco DT that with the guy above may have just made their defense better than last year...( check out his offer list):

For Butch Jones ( Butch Davis that is.....) this game is all about making a statement in south Florida that he's back...

He'll attempt to have his team
more than ready plus for this one.

He's hoping to ambush us, and win his next two to be heading into his matchup with Miami at 3-0, upset them and lock the gate to south Florida recruiting...

This matchup is a much bigger game than many realize...

The key to who'll win this game seems fairly obvious (in my opinion) : whoever ends up controlling the line of scrimmage Wins...

Whichever teams Offensive Line consistently beats the others teams Defensive Line takes this ballgame. //in my opinion//

FAU and FIU have both made deals with the Football Devil to become the closest thing to Miami that they can.

Butch Davis - right now - can get any player he wants.

I expect him to run it at us, and turn athletes loose on defense.

We need to play mid-season form - another reason to play Ramsey instead of breaking in a newbie, but I do wish Dawkins had stayed - a good runner will/would have come in handy.

Maybe we can sucker the newbies on their defense and get some people loose in their secondary. THE RACE IS ON!

Can’t wait.
I’m getting zero done at work.

Every game is a critical game for IU FB. None more important than the first. Starting wrong here could trend the entire season one way or the other. A loss would not end the season but it doesn't get much easier down the road. What kind of team we will be will show pretty quickly. I really have no idea what to expect from us. It will be raw until everyone settles down. Here's hoping for a good, clean win on Saturday.

Don't think there are many people who find this game a patsy, cake walk at all. Most people know you have to show up every game and IU has to take care of its own business. That said, I don't think it's wrong to still consider IU the favorite as the line assumes. I would bet that IU has a few more top tier horses in general and perhaps (ironically?) more overall depth. If Westbrook/Hale/Whop/Luke do their thing, they aren't the easiest to stop either. And the Tom Allen era on defense has been pretty darn good and think we have good depth on D-line, great athletes in DB-field and now less experience, but good depth & athleticism at LB. I'm also hopeful the going on the road, dealing with Dawkins/Ellison, will allow the team to bond & unite in an us vs. the world mentality and we leave with a well earned W.

I'm certain that FIU views this as a winnable game and that they're looking to make an early season statement by knocking off a P5 team. We will get their very best effort and we'd better bring ours.
You are quite right they are counting this game as a win, according to the kids I have talked to. But u don’t think they understand that teams outside of Florida can actually play football too. Butch Davis is an outstanding coach and excellent recruiter. I expect this to be a close game early but do think we will wear them down like we did two years ago. Obviously they are concerned about our depth as opposed to theirs by playing at 7 as opposed to taking advantage of the heat of day.

If our offense is anything like 2016, we are in trouble. These are two evenly matched teams. I hope we are a lot better than projected on offense and hold serve on defense or could make for a long night.

In 2016, IU was able to run the ball somewhat effectively, even with an O line that missed its two best players for a number of games, as well as other veterans with considerable experience. And they had a pretty good back in Redding, as well. The existing talent at both position groups in 208 is not as formidable as it was then, nor are they as good at qb or te.

Our offense was stagnant most of the 2016 FIU game and we bogged down in the red zone. The defense essentially won the game. As for the TE and QB positions not as good is up for debate. Lagow was a respectable 67% in that game for 240 yards. He didn’t do much getting out of trouble. The workload was on Redding who moved us well between the 20s. They are breaking in a new QB this year with untested backups at FIU.
