I say they are buffalo from 400 years of American heritage.

But I prefer 'bison', because other schools are the buffaloes. There are buffalo mascots. I am not aware of any called bison by the fans? It just sounds more unique, even a little badass.

Need to allow the young creatures to express their individuality. If they like a nose ring, or ball sack ring, so be it. Brands and tats too if they insist. I think tats in the ear are popular.
