Kind of looks like their 5th game in 8 nights…

I agree we lose still, but they aren't 30 points better without the fatigue playing a major part.

On the other IU sites they linked comments from the St Mary's coach. He complimented his own team, but said we were absolutely tired along with inadequate time to prepare.

Again, we are not very good but we were definitely fatigued tonight.
St Mary's was up 40+ when they took their foot off the gas.

We lost to Purdue by 2 on the road, but lost to st mary's by 30 at a neutral site. How would you explain it?
Easily, just a total inconsistent mindset, like they've done all year, and we'd escaped a couple better teams already so they weren't mentally ready. Plus, there is nobody on this team with a better outside shot than me, so that's not going to lend it's way to success

I know it doesn’t fit your narrative that Woodson can’t coach and we will perpetually suck, but this team brought a halt to some bad streaks this year. Woodson broke the losing streak to PU and Michigan and got us into the tournament this year.

At least we weren’t a 2seed losing to a 15 seed.
Would have liked to have been a #2 seed even if we had lost. IU barely got in, got a nasty logistical draw and guess what, we deserved it. Didn't take care of business during the year. Not going to be very good when you have a Stewart and Kopp starting almost every game.

You’re an idiot! Even 20 year olds get tired after so many games in short time. It would be different if they were use to playing that many games in a short span. They also had to fly out to the west coast.
Well then, that means Coach Woodson is an idiot because he's the one who said it during the BTT. I was merely being facetious in my comment, thinking everyone would remember.....or was I sarcastic? Overly glib? Flippant?
His remark reminded me, for some odd reason, of former Colt's coach, Jim Mora's now famous post game press conference tirade, now YouTube sensation, "I'm a man, I'm 40!"

They are kids. Several first four teams have made the final four before. Get back to me if notre dame lays an egg tomorrow they had less rest than us
I said in another thread that these are 18 to 22 year old kids we're talking about. I will never buy the "tired legs" excuse unless they were required to play multiple games in a single day. Give me a break.

I know you internet tough guys never get tired but real athletes do. They were the better team, but not 30-40 better.

The fact you and the other internet hardcore guys here can't see that makes me question whether you played sports past 3rd grade.

I will let everyone else decide who or what to blame for this, but the fact is the entire squad was completely gassed by halftime last night and we have not seen anything close to that the entire season.

Let the finger pointing commence.

The better team was going to win this game, despite the unequal preparation time, and it wasn't going to be Indiana. Saint Mary's schooled Indiana in the game of basketball. It was a very disciplined, well-coached, and talented team we faced. They played basketball like IU used to play it, many years ago. We would still lose by double digits to them, even with fresh legs. We've said all season, this is a flawed team. Flawed teams are limited in wins, fatigued or well rested.

Every team is a flawed team. UK showed it's flaws, Iowa played poorly and lost, and yes, while being a very good team, even St. Mary's is flawed. St. Mary's was far superior to IU yesterday. But one can't negate the advantages that St. Mary's had. As Coach Bennett said, they aren't 30 points better than IU. This is the same IU team that just beat UM and the Illini. St. Mary's was given every advantage in this game, and that's why they dominated IU. Had all things been equal? Who knows? St. Peter's beat UK. They were the better team yesterday. That doesn't mean that UK wouldn't have clobbered them 9 out of 10 times they played.

I'm not saying that IU would have clobbered St. Mary's with all things being equal, but when you have two teams that are good enough to reach the Dance, every small advantage isn't so small. And St. Mary's had almost all of the advantages.

This is why the NCAA needs to delay all games for a week after the last conference tournament final games. Otherwise, we have this disparity leading to a poorer product. What is their reason for rushing it at the end? Maybe they don't want to run into major league baseball's opening season games, regarding broadcast money. F*ck baseball!

The personnel didn't change between Purdue and now, so that's not the answer.

You think they were an underdog to a mid major in a tournament game, lead after 10 minutes, and then just forgot how to play and to play hard? Lolz.

You are not a better shooter than Parker Stewart. You are delusional.

Let’s watch “Go IU” do defend ANY d1 basketball from Prairie View A&M to Gonzaga team up and down the floor for 3 minutes straight and then go show that prowless shooting. What a joke.

The only reason people are even discussing this is because for once IU made the weekend of the BTT and then made the NCAA tourney. This happens every single year to many a teams it is not unique to IU and never once had I heard anyone on these boards talk about this. How many times has a Big Ten team or an ACC team played three or four games straight into Sunday and still gone on and done well in the NCAA. I think plenty of time. People are only mad now because for once IU was in the same boat. I mean really somebody said delay the games a week?

You are probably right. TJD was not going to go off vs that defense and given we cannot hit the three we likely would have lost no matter what. I do not think St. Marys is some sort of machine I doubt they would finish in the top four in the big ten. They just went on a run vs our second team and we folded after that. Game over.

How many times has an ACC or BIG team made the weekend of their conference tournament, then played on Tuesday in Dayton, and then flown to the west coast to play their 5th game in 8 days? Probably never happened before.

I checked on the VCU run from the first four to the final four. They had 8 days off in between their last conference tournament game and their first 4 game. UCLA had a week off last year before their first 4 game. They played Michigan State, who also had a week off.

Exactly. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Both are true. They were certainly the better team today by far and a better team than many of our fans were giving them credit for before the game. If you read the pre games posts you would have thought they were the worst 5 seed to ever be in the tournament.

They were well rested and well prepared. Their coach even said they 100% prepped for IU from the start.

We were outplayed by a better team but also clearly ran out of gas. Woodson and this team will never make excuses but playing 5 games in 8 days with their backs against the wall for all of them takes a mental and physical toll. Plus add in arriving in Portland at 7 AM the day before a game and getting to go to bed finally at that hour doesn’t help.
Two years ago our plane was diverted to an alternate airport (because of unruly passenger) where we landed about 10 p.m, and got kicked off the plane with no information except that we should report back to the gate at 7:30 a.m. We got about 3 hours sleep in a fleabag flophouse and, when we reported at 7:30 a.m., we were told to come back at 9:30 a.m. and then had to suffer a long flight itself. I felt like crap for two days.

Don't tell me the NCAA's flight foulup didn't affect athletic performance.

Someone on here who was familiar with St Mary's play this season compared them to Wisconsin in regard to their methodology. I believe they were correct in their assessment.

I checked. Never has a BIG or ACC team played 5 games in 8 days, with West Coast games, while going through the first four.

Both first four to the final four teams had at least 7 days off.

The closest you'd get is 2018 Syracuse, who made the S16 from the first four, but they got 6 days off between the conference and NCAA's and got to play in Dayton and then Detroit.

A little known coach named Archie Miller did lead a Dayton team to the R32, playing 5 games in 8 days, but they got to play in Dayton and then in Columbus.

There is an obvious explanation for why we totally sucked after the first 10 minutes of the game, but it doesn't fit your narrative that IU sucks, so you just won't admit it.

Nice research. Appreciate it. Anyone should be able to figure out that it is probably extremely rare to play 5 games in 8 days all against tournament teams (3 against good Big Ten teams), all but 1 a must win scenario, throw in having your two best bench players during the year (Rob and Galloway) not looking the same or playing the same minutes post injury, plus a cross country trip and flight delay, and end with a game against a 5 seed who had 9 days to rest and prep for the game against you. Not sure you can find a comparable situation to that anywhere.

Team won’t make excuses and they shouldn’t but does not change the fact that they had a LOT working against them.

Coaches bitch constantly about the conference tournaments. They're meaningless to P5 programs who don't need to win them to get into the tournament. Underwood just bitched for two days about it. You telling me Iowa didn't look spent playing yesterday against Richmond? Shots from the perimeter were all flat and that's a direct result of not getting enough elevation.

Ohio State losing on Thursday to Penn State was the absolute best thing to happen to a team that was on a complete downward spiral. Got 8 extra days of rest and allowed 2 key guys to get healthy. Not every team that rides a hot hand through the weekend has the same success in the tournament. Would bet it's the opposite.
